i can't decide if i really want a videographer

Carissa, on May 13, 2021 at 11:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
I knowwwww everyone says they're worth it and "you'll regret not getting one," but I just don't feel any strong emotions about it. I've never watched anyone's wedding videos, ever, not even the couple minute clips that get shared on social media. I just don't care. I'm sure it would/will be different for my own wedding but... idk.

My other hang up about it is that, after wrestling with the decision for weeks, I went with a pricier photographer because she was the photographer I DREAMED of having for my wedding. So that one, I had very strong feelings about. So in comparison, I feel wrong about putting more money into something I just feel eh about. Any thoughts or opinions either way?

We didn't have a videographer and don't regret it at all (been married almost 2 years). We have lovely photos, and we knew we would never watch a wedding video.

I pulled out our wedding video a couple of months ago (around my 29th anniversary) and had a good cry over seeing my grandparents who are no longer with us and a good laugh over my dear friends from high school who were hamming it up on the dance floor. We don't look at videos nearly has much as photos, yet a video brings back the "life" of the event and the people we dearly love.

I felt the same way as you when I first started planning. We splurged on our photographer & I was super happy with that decision but now that our wedding is 3 months away, I am FREAKING out & scrambling to find someone (decent) available on our date. I started thinking of the moments I wont be able to see like my FH walking his mom down the aisle, the look on my dads face as the doors open, the boys getting ready in FH's suite etc.

I had the same mentality that the pictures would capture what I needed to remember but now I have this sudden need to have a video to look back on. Pictures are beautiful but the video, hearing our vows etc. that will make us feel the feels for years to come.

You still have some time & may change your mind. Either way, go with your heart & you'll be good Smiley heart

I feel the same way you do. We are considering designating someone to capture video for us within the family, that way we have a video of the event but aren’t paying for all of the editing and such. Old school family video.

I wanted video to be able to look back on, but didn’t want the price tag of a videographer. So I put a digital camera on a tripod at the back of the church. It’s not great quality but it’s something. I made sure to use brand new batteries and memory card so there was no worry about either running out and loosing the footage. I also videoed the first dance and speeches. My brother gladly took charge of setting it up and starting it.

I was in the same boat last year. I couldn't decide if I wanted one or not. My now husband and I ended up getting one. I'm so glad we did because he filmed our small ceremony in December (postponed our original wedding), and is going to film our bigger reception. For me, it was the ability to hear our vows on video.

Fiancé and I are not having one. I felt the same as you did, sort of middle of the road and eh about it. Friends of ours who have videos love them, but really don’t watch them more than once every few years. We opted to put the money towards a photobooth instead. (Cheaper too, haha.) For us, we just felt it was a better use of money! Plus it’s something our friends can take home, so doubles as favors too!

Not sure if this will help you but I didn't want to spend money on one until I saw my SIL's video about a month before my wedding. It was so beautiful that I wanted one of my own. My FIL found someone he knew... hopefully it comes out okay.

Don’t get a videographer just because someone else felt it was worth it to them! You are not them!

We didn’t have a videographer and I did not miss it. Zero regrets. Actually I hate even attending weddings with videographers bc I feel like they’re all up on the couple at all the key moments and get in the way of my view! I didn’t want someone (else!) following me around like that. I’ve never once thought “oh I wish I had had one!” ....to each their own! If you’re really feeling torn there may be room for regret, but if it’s really not something you care about , it’s unlikely that opinion will change after the fact 🤷🏻‍♀️

We're not having one either. My friends and family love recording moments on their phones so I'm sure we can relive the memories through that footage. That will suffice for me, but if you want more of a professional look a videographer would be the way to go.

Hiring a videographer was the best decision we made, besides getting married, obviously. Pictures are great, but they don't capture movement and sound. Your wedding day will go by so quickly, and most of it will be a blur. Having your wedding video to look back on and remember your day is so special! Also, having a video with your family members, that will not always be with you on this earth, is nice to have.

I don't feel you need video if you have a great photographer.

This is a very personal decision and everyone has different priorities and budgets. It's definitely not a case of "everyone says they're worth it and 'you'll regret not getting one.'" Like others in this thread, I didn't have one and don't regret it. I do have some video my dad took because he wanted to, and that's enough for me.
