I can't find a cake topper I like. Help

SBNG, on February 5, 2010 at 2:11 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

My FH is from Norway, so he is tall with light skin, light brown/green and brown hair and I'm from PR with dark skin, dark brown eyes and black hair. Finding an interracial topper that reflect us as a couple has been really hard. I wanted something different and something more personal then the ones you see inn Wal-Mart. I don't know where to look.

I was looking for a cake topper that would look sweet on top of a cake and then I could use in my house to decorate with and it wouldn't look tacky. (The ol' 2 birds 1 stone gig) LoL.

Being that I am a photographer I would think that nothing would be more personal than actually having your faces on the top of the cake. There are actual cake topper picture frames you could use. Just select a favorite picture of you two or have some taken & put them in the frame. Here's a link to one site. http://www.bizrate.com/party-supplies/picture-frame-cake-toppers/

    Good luck!

What about not doing people? You can always do flowers or your initials.

Like the Potters I was going to suggest that you could go with something other than people or another idea I had was to make them yourself out of modeling clay. I think it could be cute little project the two of you could do together.

Oh man bobble heads, that's an awesome idea! I don't know if I would do that for my cake but I think I might by some just to set up in our house for fun, that's such a cute idea.

Or maybe they might be nice for a groom's cake. I wonder if I can find a place that would make some Fallout-sytle bobble heads of a bride and groom that look like us.

We were having the same problem. Couldn't find anything that was really us & didn't cost a fortune. Then I realized we already had one! My fiance had given my a Kim Anderson figure of a little boy & girl a while back, the caption on it is "Will you be my forever". It already has meaning to us and it's something we will always have. We are having flowers on the cake that match the ones on the figure & our cake place is going to make sure it is proportioned well with the cake, it may cost a little more ($50.00) but is well worth it. I couldn't find anything that fit us this well for less than that!!

Remember when choosing a cake topper to remember what it will be sitting on - cake. Cake is soft. A heavy topper will either fall off or sink right into the cake. Also, a topper that is lopsided will fall off the cake too. If you have your topper picked out, take either the topper or a picture with the weight included to your bakery. If you don't have your topper picked out when you purchase the cake, make sure you let your bakery know what it is when you finally decide. They may have to build in a support system for it.

The last thing you want is a ruined $500 cake because of a $9.99 topper.
