i do vs. i will?

J.Taylor, on June 17, 2018 at 1:30 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 6

I'm on a planning kick today. I've done some research and have decided I'd like to say "I will" instead of "I do". I can't find any vows online that are based on the "I will". Have any of you been to a ceremony that used "I will" instead? How'd it go?

I do is the typical response because the question asked is normally "Do you....."

Will you have the officiant change the question to "Will you..."

There are some examples here: https://www.officianteric.com/declaration-of-consent/

Will vs do makes it sound like you are not starting from that moment on with your vows. I do is present. Will is future. I would suggest thinking on that a little more.

My pastor chooses between the two based on the circumstances. And to anyone who knows his reasoning, the couple's relationship is revealed: "I do" if they are cohabitating before marriage, otherwise, it's "I will." Personally, I find it judgemental.

    Yeah, that’s pretty judgmental!
I worry I’ll be nervous and say something weird like “duh” LOL
