I don't (have the motivation) want to be a fit bride!

Emily, on October 18, 2015 at 10:54 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 28

I used to have so much motivation to eat healthy, work-out 6 days a week, go running, etc etc. Two years ago I lost my motivation and then gained it back as I was finishing up nursing school and noticed I gained a few pounds. So I got myself a trainer for 3 months and got my motivation back, until May when my training was over and I lost it again. Well in June I got engaged and I thought I would have all of the motivation in the world to start my routine again. NOPE!!! I started working as a nurse, am in the process of moving, and wedding planning... I can't find that motivation! It's not that I want to lose weight, I just need to lose 1-2" off my waist and tone up my arms (I have an A-line wedding gown). But I can't find that motivation!! I thought it would be so easy, you know, "I need to be toned for my wedding day" ..... Anyone else feel the same? Or how did you muster up the motivation you need? My fiancé likes working out with me, but we've both been so busy with work Smiley sad

Hello beautiful! Your goal is not unreasonable, which is the good part. I don't have any real good advice but to say, don't do what I did lol I stressed so much about losing weight, I ended up gaining weight. So make small changes, take lots of deep breaths and keep going to the gym when you have time. If you are so super busy and you can't make it. Don't beat yourself up about it. You can do this!

I am a month and a half away and just now focusing on eating better. The good news is that I tend to lose the weight rather easily, but have given up on being super toned for the wedding. I really don't care at this point, what will be will be.

My first wedding dress that I bought was a bit too small. Everyone kept telling me that I have plenty of time to lose the weight. Then I accepted the fact that no.... I'm not going to lose the weight and although I may have a bit of a belly, and some drooping of the arms, I'm perfectly happy with how I am and my man loves me for me. All the sag and pudge included. Plus if my chicken wing is flapping around and looks awkward.... My photographer let's me know lol. Once upon a time, I was stick thin. I mean like 72 pounds in my mid 20's. SUPER skinny. Now that I look back on it... It was totally unhealthy looking. Just seeing skin and bone wasn't attractive. Mind you I was a horrible diabetic that lead to kidney failure. Hence why I was so thin.

I just got engaged and though my wedding is at least a year and a half away I want to start getting fit too! I have always been very active but after starting a new demanding job last year I let myself go and put on more weight than I would like to admit. Like you I have NO motivation due to being so busy and stressed!! I am going to start by tweaking my diet and getting out for a short run at least once a week. I feel like this is a very easy goal to accomplish. Good luck and I'm here if you need an extra push!!

I was a runner in college - and I was nothing but a skeleton. When I got up to a healthy weight people let me know that I looked like death (gee thanks!). However, when I got engaged I wanted to tone up again - but then life happened. DH and I both switched jobs, we bought a house, and moved in literally three weeks before the wedding. It was a mess of a summer with everything going on and honestly I weighed 7 pounds more than I wanted to on my wedding day. Yes, it is just 7 pounds but that was my goal and I didn't make it. In the two weeks before my wedding there were numerous work pitch-ins, people bringing us food, cookouts, so for 2 weeks I did nothing but eat crap. Then after the wedding it was nothing but left over cake and snacks for days. Crap happens and who the hell cares!

I'm glad to see I'm not alone here!!! I just see so many brides-to-be posting their work-out photos and I thought I was the only one who wasn't working out. Hopefully I reach my goal, if not, it's not the end of the world! I'm just happy other people are on the same boat

Being a nurse is not easy! It's a huge adjustment. I said I gained 10 lbs from nursing school, 10 lbs from nclex and 10 lbs from working my first job at night. Work on eating better overall and talk to coworkers and see what their route is. Maybe join them.

Honestly- I didn't do any workout to get ready for my wedding. I'm about 10lbs heavier than I've ever been, and yea I could have done some arm work and ab work for the honeymoon but... I didn't. and I don't care! I still looked beautiful, and DH thinks I'm beautiful, and all that really matters is being healthy.

I am also not motivated. I thought the wedding would give me inspiration to do something, but it doesn't. I have a goal of what I would like to lose before my dress needs alterations, but I won't beat myself up over it if I don't make it. They say 80% of fitness is made in the kitchen, so tonight I am throwing away all of my snacks (FH is gone this weekend and I watched movies and ate snacks all day yesterday!) and be more conscious of my eating habits.

But truthfully, you're gorgeous, and will look stunning anyway!

Honestly, I think wedding planning is the worst time to try to lose weight/become more fit. Over the years, I've seen many brides say, "I'll buy my dress a size too small, and then I'll have motivation to lose weight." And then they come back and say, "I actually gained enough weight that the dress can't even be altered to fit me; what do I do now?"

Wedding planning causes stress, and reduced time for working out. And expecting to achieve a certain size by a certain date causes more stress. You're a lot better off living with the size you are now until after the wedding.

I am having the same issue! I was getting really into running and was looking amazing and very fit and then I moved in with FH and got lazy and started cooking what he likes instead of what what healthy. I gained about 30 lbs and cannot get motivated to lose it so I am actually getting ready to rejoin (the other) WW as I previously lost weight there and was a lifetime member for about 4 years before I stopped going last year.

I'm feeling the same way. I used to love working out and was very fit. Now I have a different schedule and don't have time to work out during the part of the day that my body performs the best so I just don't want to work out at all. Plus I hate my new gym. Plus sweater and pants weather is coming, so no one will know, right? lol

I feel like you just told the story of how I feel too. The best you can do is try. Though I understand wanting to be healthy. Maybe instead of saying I want to loose x amount of pounds just work on being healthy. I'll let you know when it starts helping me though....

I think your feelings are valid and realistic. Emily, you have a lot going on now and the fact that you are listening and acknowledging your thoughts is fantastic. Stay in tune to "You" and all will be well. Your motivation for movement will come back. Your brain/thoughts need all your energy for right now.

This reminds me.. I need to lose a few inches too =/ I have been slacking lately big time. I have so much going on and wish I could force myself to eat healthier and workout more. I would like to look better in my dress because I know I will have some "back fat" bulging! My FH likes to go to the gym with me as well but I haven't had the chance to go. Once I get off these antibiotics I need to start scheduling my workouts again - that really helped me do it if I put it on my calendar like a real appointment!

    ^^ 10 bucks it's beach body lol.

But I'm the same way. I haven't gained any weight, but I keep bouncing around losing/gaining back 5 pounds. I just can't find any motivation to be active. I am taking Zumba classes but that can't outsweat my generally terrible diet FH and I feast on. Wah.

Ugh, I have told my story many times. But i lost alot of weight and now gained 50 back.. Mind you 20 since we got engaged. I feel like a failure. Who GAINS weight for their wedding?? It is causing serious anxiety. I guess I should just plan to be the size I am and if I can at leave drop the 20lbsI would be thrilled.

I had a moment (of insanity, which are happening slightly more often as 11/7 approaches) last week where I told FH I didn't feel like a "real" bride bc I hadn't been working out extra or even trying to tone my arms. I'm a runner, but have been even running significantly less. But I just don't have the motivation either. I'm a lot closer to our wedding, but my feeling are: exercise if it makes you feel good or if you need to for your health, but don't beat yourself up if you don't get it done. It's going to be an awesome day, with or without a little extra jiggle in the arms. : )

You are absolutely not alone here. I had worked so hard to lose about 70 lbs and loved being fit and active and eating healthy. But then I met my FW and I fell madly in love. I gained all of my "Love Weight" back. But who knew she was into fat girls! It will always be a struggle and being thin and looking good for my wedding is on my mind a lot more than I thought it would be. It's nice to read the advice and comments to just not push yourself too much and get burnt out. My advice is find sometime in the morning. When I am motivated I am in that gym at 4:30am so I don't have to worry about at all the rest of the day. Also I try to eat small snacks every three hours to keep my body full. Highly recommend one cheat day a week to shock the metabolism. Don't mind talking about it anytime you are feeling defeated. Keep your head up! and we will do this together Smiley smile
