I don't like my dress anymore!

Jana, on December 27, 2012 at 7:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Okay so I went a few months ago and bought my dress. It was the first time I had went wedding dress shopping and it was the first one I put on. I tried on about 10 dresses and felt nothing else compared to it. Also i got a huge discount for taking it off the rack because it already fit so well. So i had to get it that day or chance it not being there later. Well today I went to pick it up and when I put it back on it didn't have that wow factor I saw before. Then I saw another dress and I fell IN LOVE! But the new dress was twice the price of mine and I know I can't afford it but it doesn't change the fact that I'm no longer excited to wear my dress. I know there's nothing anyone can say to change anything, but I thought maybe I would feel better just writing about it. :-/

I know how you feel. I had put a deposit on a gown back in October. Then I had second thoughts. Thankfully I was able to get a store credit.

Same thing happened to me!!!! I bit the bullet and went dress shopping again and tripled my budget by cutting other things (like going out to eat every weekend and staying in on NYE) but I am sooooo happy I did! I actually found a new dress I LOVE and wasn't insanely priced. Idk what your budget is but if you don't LOVE your dress you should fix that (however you can) maybe add something to it like lace or bling. Maybe just seeing someone else's reaction to you in will do the trick! Good luck and I hope everything works out for you Smiley smile

I think alot of people tend to have second thoughts on their dress... I have had the feeling lately but it's because when i went BM dress shopping there were a bunch I had never seen before but my mom pointed out they were all the same style/idea as my dress...plus i havent seen mine in 6 months, i just tell myself it was right and I will love it...it shouldnt reallly matter what the dress looks like as long as you are happily marrying the man you love Smiley smile (even though we obviously care about the dress alot) >> I just want to add that i looked at your photos and I think you look stunning in your dress!

I know exactly how you feel! I was able to change my order (luckily both dresses I ordered were from the same designer) and transfer the deposit. Maybe you can spend the extra money from the great deal you got by sprucing it up, like Elizabeth said.. maybe a cool belt/sash, sparkle, lace, etc!

Good luck! Smiley smile On your wedding day you won't even be thinking about any other dresses!

This seems to happen a lot on here. You obviously feel in love with the dress for a reason. When you find the dress you should stop looking! I find it hard to believe that on your wedding day you won't put that dress on and feel amazing! Save your money.

    Exactly what Ashely said.

Once in a while we have threads where brides talk about what they would change about their weddings. Despite all the dress doubts and regrets, I have never seen a bride who after the wedding said she would have changed her gown.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I feel a little better about it today. I went and got my hair done this morning and came home and put the dress on again. I felt better in it when I was all fixed up. Smiley smile

I know im one of the guilty partys of the i changed my mind on my dress posts. Smiley laugh I waited a little while and tried it on again and i felt better about it. (mine was also an off the rack, no holds and in order to get it for the sale price i had to get it...sale ended next day) it does help if your hair is done so you can get more of a feeling of how it will end up looking. I did decide that i was going to add a corset back to my dress cause thats what the others had and mine was "missing". so maybe see what it is about the other you are"missing" or just have to have and see if yours might be able to be altered to be exactly what you want

I refuse to even look at bridal magazines that show dresses because I loved my dress when I tried it on (everyone else loved it too) so I'm not even going to put myself in the position to change my mind! But like all the other ladies said- it will look fabulous I'm sure (especially if it's the dress in your avatar), and spruce it up however you need to!

I too am having second thoughts about my dress. I've decided to wait a little while and try it on again. I have some time if I want to puchase a new one.

Stop watching say yes to the dress. Stop browsing the Internet. Look at the photos of you in our dress and if you still feel the same way after several days then maybe you figure out how to get a new one. Your dress isn't my style but honestly you look drop dead perfect in that dress! I couldn't ever pull it off that's for sure!

I just looked at the pics you have of you in your gown, what a beautiful gown and you look great in it, I agree with some of the ladies, save your money, just think about on your wedding day when you make your first appearance to everyone, you are gonna have some many compliments on your gown and how pretty you look in it...

I bought one of the first dresses I tried on and the seamstress fitted it to my body and it was NOT what I thought it would be...I was heartbroken. I went to DB and found a second dress and was able to change it to what was my dream dress...

If you can't afford the more expensive dress, DONT buy it. It is NOT worth it. Everyone will think you are gorgeous even if youre in a white potato sack. You will regret spending more than you can afford on a dress you wear for half a day...

Also I agree with @Alisha--STOP watching TLC wedding shows...you will make yourself crazy..you look dropdead gorgeous in your dress...

I have had exactly the opposite, I went to try on the dress once it had come in and no longer liked it...it was very expensive and I expected it to be perfect in every way....I want to take it back and buy something else...going to call the store tomorrow and see if I can even return it.

    Soon to be Mrs.

I was torn between two dresses. I chose the less expensive one that had less alterations needed and it's a stunning dress. This weekend I started to worry that since the other one had more of a intricate design it might have been the better choice but it was so much more expensive, especially since it needed a lot more alterations and additions (ie: bling, glittery tulle, built up back, lace etc) . It just wasn't worth it to pay that much more for a dress that I'll be wearing for less than half a full day when there was a perfectly stunning dress for less.

A wedding is such a big and important day in someone's life, we all want to look our very best so it's easy to start second guessing choices out of a desire to reach the pinnacle of perfection especially with an array of choices. Realistically though, I'm sure the dress you chose is probably lovely and your guests will love it as well and you'll be radiating with so much love and joy on that day there's no way you won't look beautiful!
