i don't need this problem four months from my wedding

I know this sounds much, but my fiancee and I are having two caterers.

One caterer to provide the appetizers and another one to provide my culture's cuisine.

My issue is that my parent's caterer that they chose for me, is charging too much for too little they bring, and my fiancee and I just can't support that. Basically wanting to charge us over $3000+ just to give us food, but they won't even be providing chafing dishes, nor will they be providing any servers to help serve the food. They won't even supply plates, or silverware!

Therefore, we made the decision to look for another caterer to serve the main dish. My issue is that I can't find any caterers that serve my culture's cuisine, and I've been looking at restaurants and food trucks as well. Basically all the restaurant's I called, have decided to completely stop their catering services due to COVID, and the one food truck I found that serve's my culture's cuisine is ignoring all my phone calls, emails, and text messages, and I'm running out of time because my wedding is literally in four months.

My fiancee said that we could just have our caterer that's in charge of appetizers do the main course, but I don't want that because of how much I find their entrees to be bland and basic. Not to bash on wedding caterers or anything, but I'll be honest, a lot of the food can be pretty bland and be "basic wedding" food if you know what I mean.

Anyway, I really want some good food that isn't just basic, so I was thinking of hiring a food truck, even if it isn't my culture's, just to have something that isn't too "wedding-ey" if you know what I mean.

So I got into contact with a food truck that serves some sandwiches that are to die for, and they're dish includes, a huge sandwich, a side of tater tots, and soda or water as the drink. But IDK if I want them to provide drinks, because my other caterer is already providing lemonade and water. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but is it okay to just have a lot of drinks be made available?

Food trucks tend to take a long time to serve people so one group will be done eating before the other iserved.

Is there *anything* that the appetizer caterer serves that appeals to you as a dinner option? Just serve delicious food, whatever that might be. There is nothing written anywhere saying 'because it's a wedding you are only allowed to serve this chicken and these vegetables and everything else is taboo'. Screw that. Serve whatever is delicious that you know your guests will enjoy.

So your parents chose a caterer (which is out of your budget) but they aren't paying for it? This doesn't seem very fair to you and your FH...I'd have an honest talk with your parents on the matter. Nobody can dictate the type of food you have if they're not contributing financially to the cost of said food.

I agree with Michele. Food trucks take a lot longer than a normal caterer because they can only prepare so much food at once. As a guest, I would be kind of annoyed sitting around that long waiting for food. I would also talk to your other caterer to see what fun and unique options they might be able to serve. I know our venue had some really neat options like a stir fry station or mashtini bar. A lot of caterers will have in their contract that they can be the only person providing the food.

I agree with the others. Your parents hired the caterer but are not paying anything towards it? I’ve been to e few events that had food trucks & it took forever to get our food.

I am surprised that your parents are not paying for the caterer they hired. I think a food truck will be fine with a smaller wedding.
