I dont want my wedding to look tacky, color advice please!

ready2marry, on May 2, 2015 at 12:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

I definitely know I want pink/blush/orchid pink shade/hue at my wedding. I am meeting my florist tomorrow and have decided to go bold/bright for flowers and centerpieces and bouquets and then more neutral on linens and bridemaids dresses. What do you think? How are you doing your colors? I just dont want to end up looking tacky... thanks!

We're doing all soft shades. Pinks, blues, maybe some soft greens and brown's, and ivorys... No blue flowers though. Something about blue flowers bothers me.

Tacky is subjective in most cases when it comes to decor. Do what makes you happy and see your vision through! I think you've got a great strategy with the neutral linens and dress colors and pops of color in your florals.

I'm going with gladiolus (my favorite flower), globe thistle (looks really cool and spiky in the right color) and Chicory flowers (also right color and I won't have to buy them since the grow like weeds EVERYWHERE) I can't find any navy flowers I like so I went with navy bridesmaids dresses to tie that in too. Before I changed my colors to blue and periwinkle, it was pink and orange and I was gonna have really REALLY bright flowers and ribbons and leave everything else more muted. My only word of advice for colors is making sure you give your eye a break here and there. Don't pile color on top of color with added color, layer the neutrals with your colors and have a little variety. But no matter what, remembe, no brightly colored balloons and paper steamers because no matter who you are that IS tacky. (This last bit was said with humor but it's true too.)

I had navy blue dresses with shades of pink. I like having some of the deeper pinks mixed in with white. My flowers are artificial and were made by a friend. The alter peices and BM flowers did have some small blue flowers mixed in,not sure of names.

I did oasis colored dresses and decor. Yellow sunflowers with accents of white and purple. We also threw in some silver around the room. I felt it turned out beautifully.

Our colors are Black, White and Gray. That leaves all the color options for the flowers.

Here was the palette for my summer wedding – we had to change the date to November though! This has more of a peach pink but I think it looks nice with the blue. For the fall, I changed my palette to purples and warm greys with a blush pink accent. Smiley smile

If your decor is done right, almost any color combo looks great. Just remember less is more Smiley smile

BTW, @Kelsey what is the story behind shoes-less bridal party? I'm intrigued Smiley smile

My BMs are wearing eggplant, and flowers will be orange, fuschia, and light pink. I love the contrast.

@GeekyBride this is my inspiration photo! I'm doing the exact same color scheme. Smiley smile You'll just pull it off a day before me. Smiley winking

I think blush/orchid/whatever pink you're using would look great with like a slate or grey. Super chic.

I'm doing white/light pink/blush and maybe some coral...I had your idea as well, to do bright flowers on the tables and for bouquets. Since then I have changed my mind, instead I'm doing the entire scheme in very light, almost white shades. This makes it much easier for me to keep everything flowing and coordinated. I had a lot of trouble making things go together when I wanted the bright colors. My bridesmaids with be in blush with white bouquets and my tables will have white linens with pastel pink/white flower centerpieces.

50 Shades of Purple here with white/pearl accents. Since the table covers are a bright orchid color, I switch from flowers with lots of color to all white, with the exception of my bouquet.

I think July is a great month for bright colors. It is in season for your wedding and I don't think it will look tacky. Especially if you are paring it down with neutral backdrops. Sounds like it will pop.

We are going with forest green, sage, greys and creams/ivory's..the picture reflects the colors my girls will be wearing.

Flower wise we are probably going to stick with uniformed, ivory flowers but we are focusing more on lighting (candles, white Christmas lights etc.). Linens will be grey, with cream napkins...black accents here and there.

Mine is similar to Maltese-Purple shades w/silver and pearl accents. I have silver table covers (Bridal party and family tables) w/purple and white flowers and some purple table covers w/ white floral arrangements. Bouquets for BMs and myself are mixed purple and white as well.

Nothing wrong with bright! Everything is black and white, with pops of reds/oranges/sunset colors in the flowers and gold accents.

"Tacky," to me, is when you paint the whole place in a strict color scheme - the EXACT teal or purple or whatever, where it's on everything and overwhelming. It looks more like a birthday party when everything is pink, from the dresses to the ties to the chairs and flowers and linens and... you get idea. Soften your look with different shades of your colors, from darks to lights, and have accent colors, and it will be lovely!
