I don't want to be a fat bride

I can't get motivated. I'm short, overweight(Size 22) and worried I won't be able to at least lose 30 pounds before my July 4th wedding next year. Help!

@balletshoesrachel I love the substitution idea though I've admittedly never heard of the desserts. When I crave something salty like chips I try to go with something healthier like whole grain wheat thins. Someone else had a great salty snack I'm just blanking on it at the moment...

I'm 5'4" and 186 lbs. only a size 10/12 but I hate it. I told fh tonight that pushing the wedding back gives me until March to lose 31 pounds. I'm going to cheat and do the HCG shots. I don't eat much to begin with, so I won't have to change my eating habits. I stay pretty busy, so shouldn't retain the water weight back immediately(as some people have issues with), and bc I gain muscle mass at a reasonable rate, I can do the shots while building muscle, and balance it all out.

My ex did it. He lost 17 pounds in about 14 days. He lost inches, but gained weight in muscle. Which is how I am. I've lost weight as in clothing size, but the number itself hasn't really changed much. I want it to! I was 164 when I got pregnant, but I want that extra 10 pounds so I actually change pant sizes! I wear the same size clothes now as I did prepregnancy, yet I'm 22 pounds heavier lol.

I agree with some of the other posters about cutting it the real sugary stuff. No soda, juice, or booze. Those things add up and don't fill you up. I've never been able to do a low carb diet, but I've been doing "lower carb" where the only carbs I eat are from smaller portions or brown rice, lentils, beans etc. it's been working great. I exercise pretty regularly but it's not always a hard core workout. I've found that the food changes are what really make me drop the most. Otherwise you spend all the this time exercising, just to work off the food you ate and don't really make a dent in your weight.

My friend has been on medifast for a month and she has lost 23 lbs. she is sticking to the plan religiously and the weight is falling off

I would suggest making mini goals! Say I want to go to the gym 4 days a week- Then actually start going or saying I want to do cardio 4x a week and do it- Once you get into the routine of going to the gym, you won't be able to break the cycle. You'll become addicted to the gym like me and want to try and go every day! Just take it a step at a time.

I agree with Nicole C and some of the other ladies.

Diet is so much of it, but really to give yourself the best shot, exercise and diet together will get you there. 9 months to lose 30 lbs is plenty - but don't keep putting it off.

Water or unsweetened tea/iced tea, lots of veggies, lean meat (top sirloin, ground bison, chicken, turkey, pork), fish, whole grains, egg whites.

Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise at least 3x a week.

I just ordered something called a "teatox" - have you heard of it? It is a 14 or 28 day detox that you still eat during. If you added that in, I think it would help, too!

Hi Megan! I feel your pain, I've been trying to motivate myself too! All of the ladies' advice about what to cut out is definitely helpful, but I've found that Weight Watchers is the only thing that has worked for me. You don't have to cut out anything specific, you just limit the overall amount that your eating. If you know that you have a birthday party coming up and you want to eat some cake and drink a cocktail, you can just save some of your points so you can still do that. It is the most flexible diet for me and that makes it the easiest to stick to! Also, I just joined dailymile.com which is kind of like a fitness facebook; any time you workout, you can post it on there. I only have two "friends" on it (my MOH and a BM) but it is definitely a motivator. I don't want to skip a workout because I want to be able post it for them to see it and comment on it. It also gives you a weekly report- last week somehow I ran/ walked a total of 11 miles which is crazy! Good luck! Smiley smile

What helps me in the motivation department is that I keep two pictures on the desktop of my computer. One of me in my dress when I bought it and one of the model. I hate how my arms and stomach look in my dress so I am striving to look more like model. Now I know I will never get down to the size -2 or whatever size that stick of a girl is in the picture but it still helps motivate me to slim down non the less.

I joined Weight Watchers in March, and I'm down 25lbs. I tried to lose weight on my own and it didn't work.

@Cheetah2b, be careful with the hCG. I tried the drops (with the hormone, not homeopathic) about a year ago. I stuck to the 500 calorie diet, weighed out all of my food, only ate the approved items, didn't exercise, blah blah blah. I lost 10 pounds in 6 days but I'm pretty sure it was only because I was essentially starving myself (500 cal per day???). I had a complete temper tantrum on the 7th day because the diet doesn't allow for cheating. I finally said screw this and had a glass of wine and a slice of pizza. Almost immediately after eating it, I had a crazy upset stomach and spent a couple hours in the bathroom. I'm sure it had to do with those crazy drops.

Bottom line is a diet like that isn't good for your body or mind. Plus there's a very good chance of gaining the weight right back (I sure did) because it doesn't actually teach you anything about healthy living.

You can do it. do not procrastinate this though. i did. my wedding dress is a size 20 and i thought that i would at least drop about 25 pounds before my wedding. it didn't happen. but ya know what? i don't really mind anymore. i am big and beautiful and i am marrying a man that loves me just the way i am. so i don't really mind. if you drop the weight, then great. if not, then embrace your beauty as you are now.

I'm not going to pretend to be a professional (because I'm sure not!) but I've lost 50 pounds and counting and YOU CAN DO IT. Smiley smile

I eat 6 small meals a day. I have a protein shake for breakfast, when my students have their lunch (at 10:55), I have a small snack like fruit or almonds, when my students go to afternoon specials (12:15) I have my real lunch..usually something like turkey slices and cheese, after work I have some kind of fruit, then I go work out and have dinner. I'm a kindergarten teacher..so if I can get up at 5am every morning, teach kindergarten for 8 hours, and still have the energy to work out for 60-90 minutes..everyone can! Haha.

I track EVERYTHING I eat on MyFitnessPal. I have the app on my phone so I can just scan everything in. I have a food scale at home so I weigh my servings if I need to and I try to log everything on MFP before I ever leave the house so I have no excuse to cheat. Bottom line: you have to burn more calories than you eat and stay hydrated.

Thank you everyone! I am a member of WW but have not really been tracking. I know it's time. I am going to cut out my beverages and really start pounding the water and unsweetened tea, start limiting my carbs and track those points. I think having so much time before my wedding is making me feel like I have all the time in the world. I know if I dropped some weight and got exercising I wouldn't feel so tired all the time.

I know take out/fast food is a huge issue for me. So I am going to work on cutting that out and make sure I have healthy lunches. If anyone is on WeightWatchers, you are more than welcome to friend me: MissCarlotta26

Thank you again. You guys have made this bride feel really supported when I have been feeling really lost!

Maybe setting monthly goals will work better for you. I know sometimes I feel like my wedding is so far away, then I look at my weight loss goal and think: To lose this much by my wedding, I need to lose at least X lbs a month. That puts a more realistic timeline on it and makes it seem more urgent (like if I don't lose some this month, then I will have to lose even more per month to meet my goal). Hope that makes sense.

Also I'm not sure what types of food you like, but low carb (ketogenic) diet has been working for me. I have lost 20 lbs not counting calories and basically eating whatever I want as long as it is under 25 carbs a day. It works perfectly for me since I crave more salty/cheesy/savory snacks. If I get a craving for sweets I will make some sugarfree jello and homemade whipped cream w/Stevia. Eventually the sweets/carbs/sugar cravings really do go away and you have a ton of energy.

    Good luck!

I have to disagree with no snacking. I eat 7 or 8 meals and it keeps my metabolism really really steady. No cranky binging.

You will be a beautiful bride!!

    A few tips:

    Cut out all processed food

    No alcohol

    No sugar

No carbs (they breakdown to sugars and can be stored as excess fat)

    Lots of protein and fiber!!

Just remember, your wedding pictures will last a lifetime and you only have one chance to take them! Smiley smile
