I hate my bridesmaids dresses

Hannah, on April 27, 2017 at 1:19 AM

I ordered my bridesmaids dresses online in the color ivory and they are WHITE. It is stupid that I'm upset by that? I have 8 bridesmaids and it was hard enough just to get this dress. I feel like it will be be a pain to return them..

Yep, I don't understand why you didn't go into the store to look at the ACTUAL fabric colors after the first mistake before ordering the second round of dresses.

And I also don't understand what you thought IVORY was? It's a shade of white. Of course it looks white.

Feel free to return these if you want, but next time please go look at fabric colors in the store before you make a third mistake.

Idk why you would order ivory for your bridesmaid dresses in the first place. Ivory is just an off white. Most wedding dresses are ivory including mine. It's way too close to white for a bridesmaids color.

Ivory looks like white unless you hold it up next to something pure white. My dress is ivory and you would never know it wasn't white. I do think you just didn't understand what color ivory is. Can you take them into a davids bridal and exchange them for a champagne or whatever color you want? It will probably be a pain in the ass. But if you want to try you need to go in there ASAP. Otherwise it will be fine. Everyone will still be able to tell who the bride is. I vote add a colored sash to the bridesmaids.

As a bridesmaid I would be very frustrated with changing my dress for a 3rd time.

But, if you really hate the color I would contact an alterations specialist who could refer you to a dip dye specialist. You don't want to dye a dress and find the color took in certain spots and not others. All the dresses would have to be handled by the same person to guarantee all dresses are the same color. Unfortunately, you would be responsible for paying to dye all 8 dresses and if bridesmaids need to ship it to you and back.

A pp said adding a sash which I think is a great idea also.

There's also lovely weddings with an all white theme. It's more common for an all white (ivory) wedding party.

At the end of the day everyone will know you are the bride!

    Good luck!!

Just pretend like you were going for the royal wedding look--if you'll recall, all the bridesmaids were wearing white!

Okay I'm getting a lot of comments like "oh why did you order it that color in the first place?"

If you read my comments then you would see that I said that the only reason I ordered ivory was to match the original dress because we were going to do mismatched dresses.. ( which came in way lighter then what I wanted!) then my aunt took over and now everyone bought a new dress. It's a messy situation and not my fault. By the way I paid for everything.. so I don't appreciate the rude comments about how it's "too much stress on the bridesmaids"

I was just looking at pictures for something else and saw a bride with her wedding party in white - it looked so classy and pretty. What about getting some sort of colored sash/belt to wear with their dresses?

I say order a color sash for everyone or make one and it will be different enough I think. You are close to the wire and why risk not having any dresses?

It's a cute dress (sorry, didn't see it before I responded) - what does your dress look like? With that dress you can easily add a colored belt/sash (whatever the appropriate name is) and it would look very pretty. What other colors are in your wedding palette?

Look, you asked for advice. We gave it to you. We answered your question. But frankly, it is your fault for letting your aunt "take over." This is your wedding. Put your foot down and handle these things yourself.

The dresses look fine and will look fine just the way they are.

Ivory=white to most people's eyes. If you didn't want white, you shouldn't have gone with ivory gowns. There are a lot of other options to go with a light nude, that don't look white. HOWEVER, I think it will still be beautiful. Use colorful bouquets, and maybe add a sash to the ivory dresses to break up the white? It's not the most traditional look but I think it will look beautiful.

Don't have them order new dresses. I would be frustrated if I was a BM and that happened. You could pay to have them dyed but you run the risk of them not turning out the way you want them to look.

What would be the ideal color for you? Just out of curiosity.

You didn't get color-swatches from David's Bridal first, so it's on you OP. They're only like $1/swatch, and this could have saved you and BMs a lot of headache.

Were you aware that ivory is a shade of white?

TBH I can't tell the difference between white and ivory. I don't think they will look too much like you though since the dresses are short. Having bridesmaids in white is a very trendy thing to do right now. You can always add a colored sash or do your hair differently or give them a colorful statement necklace if you want them to have some color. You definitely shouldn't have them reorder a third time; that's just not fair. I think you're having a bridal breakdown moment and after the wedding, you won't even remember it and will be astounded that you let it upset you.

That's a really pretty BM dress! It would look wonderful with color added such as a sash and colorful bouquet as others have mentioned. Personally I would keep the dresses and move on to choosing colorful accessories. I would not delegate that part though. If you keep them, I hope that you show us the final look!

I guess I'm the only one but if you ordered ivory you should get ivory. I would think a bunch of brides would know the difference between ivory and white. They should take them back if it is not what you ordered.
