I hate my dress?

Leah, on February 16, 2017 at 1:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I bought my wedding dress about a year ago and it was different than what I wanted, but it seemed right at the time. I've lost a lot of weight so the dress that wouldn't even zip up now falls off! And the more I look at the dresses I always wanted to have myself in the more I dislike the one I bought. Is this all just pre-wedding anxiety? Because I don't want to look back at my wedding pictures and hate my dress!

With your date, you do have some time to pick out another dress and get it altered. Why not go dress hunting again?

I agree with @MagicalMermaid if you hate it that much then you do have time to go shopping again and then if you don't find anything that is better than what you have you can always get it altered so it fits you now. Also, congrats on the weightloss!!

Do you have a photo? Would the salon you got the dress from allow you to do an exchange?

I originally picked a beautiful drop waist/a line dress. It wasn't what I had gone in looking for, but my Mom cried and I loved the lace and the veil that was paired with it. Then I lost weight, and I wasn't totally sure about it anymore. I ended up changing dresses and picking a mermaid, but I ended up going back to that salon about 3 times to try on different dresses and be sure.

Dress regret is real, this could also just be jitters. I'll always say never compromise though. Have you tried on the dress with it pinned up to see what it would look like? Have you tried it back on with a veil?

Thank you! I have 7 months until the wedding, but we have a close family friend that alters wedding gowns and she's going to be altering mine once I get together with her. I really wanted to go look again but my fiance and mother have both advised against it. They said to just get a dress to change into for the reception but even that doesn't seem appealing to me.

I think you should go look again if you really don't like it and it doesn't even fit. I think pre-wedding indecision would be more like not being able to pick between the dress you have and one you saw online... but if you straight up don't like yours anymore I'd say it isn't the right one.

I tried it with a veil and it seemed to be right. I went to David's Bridal and since it was a discontinued gown they won't take it back or exchange it. When I tried it on in the store it looked really nice! But I've always wanted a short dress so its just nagging me in the back of my head because I went long.

Can you take back the one you don't like? If not, explore your options with alterations. You want to be comfortable and happy in that dress!! Good luck! And congrats on the weight loss Smiley smile

That dress is stunning! Can you have it shortened to tea length if it's the length that's bothering you? Tea length with a little puff could be really cute.

Or, just leave it alone. It's beautiful on you.

I think that is a beautiful gown.

But, if you don't love it, you could always try to sell it online. And buy on that you love. I don't think you should wear something that you are not comfortable with and don't love on your wedding day.

Thank you all! I appreciate it Smiley smile I may have to look into seeing it shortening it is an option! Its so helpful getting feedback from other people who understand these crazy little problems that come up when planning!

I personally think it would be risky to have a dress with that shape shortened, it could look amazing but it may not look right either. Know that if you have the alterations done outside of DB they will not take it for alterations again after, so keep that in mind. But, they also won't shorten a dress to tea length, as that changes the dress entirely.

Since they won't let you exchange it, are you okay with eating what you've already paid for that one? If you are, then I would say try on some short dresses and see what you think. If not, then I would advise against trying on more dresses. ETA: I also personally love your dress the way it is! But it doesn't matter what I think, can you picture it?

I think you look beautiful! Have you thought of perhaps wearing this for your ceremony and getting a shorter dress for your reception?

Thank you all so much! I think I'm gonna take it to our seamstress friend and get her professional opinion on it. In the meantime I may just look into shorter dresses for the reception unless something jumps out and gives me that "this is the dress moment" I want to feel.

Ahh, that dress is super gorgeous on you! Obviously if you aren't happy you can try to sell it and put that money toward a different dress or just eat the cost and buy a new one, but it really is a lovely dress on you!

Very pretty, I agree that it would look adorable shortened too. Can't go wrong either way.
