i have no idea how to plan a wedding… help!

Welcome Shahyra. First things first: budget, vision, and guest list. Always start with your budget first and THEN figure out what you want to do with the money you have available.



I found having a planner book helped me a lot. Some people like to use a binder instead so you can add pockets for brochures, fabric swatches, and notes. I know there is also a VERY comprehensive Google sheets wedding planner that some people have recommended which can be customized and tailored to fit a non-traditional wedding easier than most of the other planning guides.

The timelines provided on Wedding Wire and the Knot are also useful resources to help you get started and figure out which vendors you should be talking to when.

I am getting married back home which is a 3 1/2 hour drive so planning has been challenging. I decided to cave and hire a wedding coordinator. They come with many different options and variety of pricing. You can hire them for just helping with finding vendors, to full coordination! I personally know my coordinator, but there are many on Facebook who advertise. Check out local (often in larger cities) Bridal Expos. Friends who got married said they found a lot of vendors and helpful information there. -- You can always ask family/friends for assistance too and your bridal party!
