Hi everyone!

We recently got engaged a couple of week ago and I’ve been trying to start planning our wedding and OMG WOW!!! I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing haha! Any advice on here for how to’s would be greatly appreciated from brides further along in the process. We know we want a destination wedding in the Caribbean but how do you choose the venue? Especially being that I might not be able to check it out before the wedding. Are there any destination wedding venues that are recommended on here? I’ve watched numerous videos and read post after post but I’m still having a horrible time choosing which one would be best for our wedding. I don’t want a huge skyscraper party resort but I do want a mid sized tropical rainforest-y feel with enough to do in the resort and on excursions for our guests… please help and thank you!!!

There are search engines here and The Knot that help you search for a venue. You can give a location and check off what other features you want. (Be warned that the price ranges it gives will not necessarily be accurate.) On Wedding Wire some venues even have a virtual tour feature where you can "walk around" the space and see the floor plan on your computer screen! Another way is through Instagram. You can search hashtags like #carribeanwedding or #bahamasweddingvenue (or whatever location you're thinking of) and you should find lots of beautiful photos of places. Congratulations and enjoy the planning!

Hi Jasmine! Thank you for your response! So the package pricing won't be accurate due to add ons or are there hidden fees that they'll charge later on that they typically won't tell you about up front?
With searching for a venue are there any apps or sites where you can filter it down to things you want?

So venue pricing varies a lot based on your specific event, as well as other factors like inflation. Also, the cost of living in different areas means that an inexpensive venue one place will be very pricey somewhere else. The Knot's search function gives venues a price rating from one to four dollar signs, so just know that even if The Knot says a venue is affordable for you, it might not really be. The only way to know the cost is to ask the venue directly. Then I would suggest adding on 30% more, to account for fees and taxes and such.

Before you start searching, I recommend sitting down with your fiancé and drafting a guest list. When you reach out to venues, they will all ask how many guests you expect to have. You want to make sure you pick a venue that will fit everyone.

Oh wow, I’ll definitely keep this in mind, thank you! We have “tried” to create a guest list but even with the idea of starting of small our list keeps growing with the more people who find out. The number we started with ( and are hoping to keep it at) is between 25-35 people, are there any resorts that you can recommend in the Caribbean? It seems like we’ve been looking at a lot of them but there doesn’t seem to be any that have all of our wants and needs in one place.

I don't know of any personally. You'll just have to keep looking. You can search for terms like "micro wedding" as well, since it's on the smaller side. Another option is to hire a wedding planner who will help you look for vendors, if you can afford it.

I was thinking that's what I would do but I've noticed that almost every hotel out there has their own wedding planners so I'm not totally sure how that works.
