i just want to cry, catering has fallen through

Sara, on May 20, 2021 at 4:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

So originally planned September 2020 blah blah blah now its August 28th, 2021. We kept everything and just pushed it back. Well the event coordinator at our venue changed, and that was stressful at first but is fine now. Well we already picked food over a year ago. Figured we would keep the same food but decided to schedule a food tasting anyways just to make sure we don't want to change our minds. Well....the event coordinator sent the menu. It is legit straight up backyard BBQ style. No offense to anyone who wanted that, but it is the exact opposite of what we picked. We picked very nice steak, chicken, and vegetarian options plated. The menu is literally what we eat as a family at family gatherings. I am less than 4 months from the wedding and there is a slim chance of getting catering now.

What did your contract say about the food? I don’t understand how there could be that drastic of a change in catering without some sort of breach of contract.

Demand a refund. Then look elsewhere for catering. Even if you have to get drop off catering from your favorite restaurant.

Unfortunately there was nothing in the contract about food. But was never told there was a change in catering. I would have looked a long time ago!

Is the venue the one providing catering? Our venue provided catering and we created a custom menu which wasn't originally spelled out in our contract so we asked them to add it. If it is in-house catering, I would ask to speak with a manager because they should definitely be providing the type of food that was previously agreed upon.

Have you asked about changing to your original menu? If they’ve offered that food in the past, they should be able to. Most catering companies will offer multiple menu options.
