I've lost two small side diamonds, they told me it's the way the design is, mine is really sparkly and doesn't have the prong thingy around all the diamonds, but I take it into jareds, the first time they fixed it in an hour the second time it took a few hours... no biggie.

This happened to me too. About a day after my FH proposed. The jeweler said it was because the ring had never been worn before and so my body heat made the prongs loose. ( i didn't know what to believe ) .. luckily they replaced it for free. It took about 15 min.

I was told its normal for that to happen, especially if your band part of your ring isn't channel set, the setting is just so dainty that the diamonds can fall out easily. They just told me to be careful with it

I worked in fine jewelry for about four years. If you just had it cleaned on Saturday, but you also wear it 24 hours a day, the reason it came loose is probably a combination of those two things. It happens from time to time. Brides never want to take their jewelry off (not to sleep, not to shower, not to apply lotion/wash their hands, etc). Dirt piles in there (although you may not SEE it), and sometimes when you finally get around to having it cleaned, the ultrasonic machine at the shop will remove all the dirt that was 'holding' the diamond in place, and it will fall out shortly after. A lot of damage is done to rings just by wearing them daily. A jeweler SHOULD check your prongs/stones before AND AFTER cleaning, to make sure no damage was caused by their machine. So glad you have insurance. SMART move! :-)

One of my coworkers lost the center stone of her wedding ring at work a while back, (we are letter carriers for the postal service) she was so distraught and the entire office was searching for the stone (a very large stone), the custodians swept every floor and sifted through the debris, we emptied trashcans and even had the traps removed from the ladies room sinks, we couldn't find it and she finally made the call to her husband, he told her it was okay, insurance would cover it, she collected herself and went out to deliver mail. Several hours into the route as she was gathering mail for a box, and still feeling very sad, she heard a loud CLUNK. She looked down into the tray and there was her diamond!! She now has a simple band that she wears to work.

When that happened to me I filed an insurance claim (Have jewelers insurance) and the jeweler I took it into was nice enough to rush my claim so I would have it back before christmas. I think I was without my ring a week or so.
