I need candles!

TayliaRae, on December 22, 2015 at 12:00 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

Centerpieces are going to include dripping tapered candles atop wine bottles - but I cannot find candles! Almost every candle I find says "non-drip," or drip red or multi-colored wax. I found one place online (candlestock.com) that has white dripping candles, but they only burn for 20 min. I don't want to have to worry about my coordinator having to swap out them out every 15-20 min during my reception. Anyone have any advice? Or places to look?

Where are you searching? I googled "white taper candles" and got plenty of results for standard (not dripless) tapers. At the Candle Depot they list the burn time as 5 hours for a 10-inch taper.

Will your venue allow those? also what is going to be underneath to catch the wax?

Do you have time to drip wax onto the bottles between now and the wedding and then use the long-burning candles at the reception?

Double check with your venue, most will not allow an open flame per the fire code.

You can try Save-On-Crafts. What about Hobby Lobby?

I've tried some from Hobby Lobby, Amazon, and of course the basics from both Target and Walmart. None of them drip! Smiley sad I get a little bit after burning the entire candle, but it barely goes over the lip of the wine bottle.

My venue does allow for candles, thankfully!

I will go check out Save-On-Crafts, and Yummicandles.

@Nancy- I'm not sure why I didn't think of trying it that route! We have 4 months, so that's plenty of time to make the look!

    Thanks, everyone!

Maybe ikea? And just because your venue allows candles, you should probably make 100% sure they don't need to be in a votive (mine do).

I bought some taper candles from World Market last year for an event & they dripped beautifully (even though i didn't plan for it). Try there too.

Also, I agree with PPs, does your venue allow this? Most venues require all open flames to have a container around them. Be sure to double check before you purchase a bunch of candles.

I bought all of my candles at IKEA. They have the best prices on candles I could find. Not sure if they drip or not but buy one and try it out.

$1 store? I cant imagine those are very high quality candles!

Also, as someone mentioned, are you "pre-dripping" the bottles? I don't imagine there'd be enough time at the reception to get the above look if you're just lighting candles as people come in. I'd pre-drip the bottles, then get the drip-less for the reception so they don't drip wax all over the tables etc. But just my 2 cents thinking about this for all of 22 seconds.
