I need skeleton keys!

Courtney, on February 3, 2012 at 11:48 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

I have looked...and looked...and looked...and just cannot find enough in the style(s) I like and the size. I have looked at craft stores and etsy and pages n pages of google and ebay and craigslist. I am hopeful, but not holding my breath, my last chance I think will be to scour some antique store but not even sure how thaw will go. If anyone knows anywhere that would help I'd appreciate it!

What are you going to use them for?

    Pottery Barn?

I've also seen them at antique shops.

This website looks like maybe it could be helpful. http://www.kennedyhardware.com/bulk-skeleton-keys.html

Antique stores/malls and flea markets usually have some as well.

We sell skeleton keys at Lowe's, but they're gold colored and not fancy.

    Here's the link:

    http://www.lowes.com/pd_63087-37672-701281_0__?catalogId=10051&productId=3036798&UserSearch=skeleton keys&Ntt=skeleton keys&N=0&langId=-1&storeId=10151&rpp=24

Gah... you'll have to copy and paste. I guess there's a space in the link...

For Cate's wedding, I just bought these assorted key related stuff at Michaels in their impulse section.

I'm ordering replica skeleton keys off of eBay. We are using them with our escort cards. Since real ones are collector's items (I didn't know that at first) I cant find enough to stay in budget.

I don't know what you have around you, but near FH's hometown in NE Ohio, they have two antique fairs every year at the county fair ground (September and June). I love skeleton keys - and found people who had 5 gallon buckets full of keys. Some were plain and some beautiful, so you had to dig for what you want, but they usually go for about $0.25-$1 each depending on the size/shape/type. Maybe you could look into local antique events like this.

Also, with a quick Google search:

This etsy shop is loaded with them ... http://www.etsy.com/shop/SisterNomadSupplies?ref=seller_info

Thank you so much! I will be checking out hardware stores this weekend! I want to use them for our guest book. I want to have a key for everyone and have a ribbon with a card on it saying something about What is the key to a successful marriage? and then (kind of like the river rock one) store them in a glass hurricane.

There is a website called KeyBoutique.Com that just sells keys and key related items. They are reproductions, but so much more affordable than real antique keys (especially in bulk), and have a great look to them, so they work just as well for whatever you want to do with them. I pulled the pictures included from the website because this is what we are going to be using them for also, and they turned out perfect! The selection is awesome and they are great keys for wedding where they will be passed out, admired, and remembered individually! I hope this helps and good luck!
