Just Said Yes January 2010

I need someone who will marry me again...

Whitney, on June 8, 2011 at 11:45 AM Posted in Married Life 0 16

So, My husband and I are only 20, but we got married just this past Jan. because both of our families are pretty religious and didn't want us moving in together without being married. So, we just went to a justice of peace in a court room and did it real quick. I was wearing jeans and flip flops, not what I hoped I would be wearing. Anyways, well now, I want a real wedding. But... I don't want the wedding on Jan. 4th. I want it June 1st. Jan, is cold, and I want an outdoor wedding. And Jan. is too close to start planning, I want some more time. So, the problem is first will anyone (a pastor, preist, preacher, judge etc.) marry us again on june 1st, and if so, can i get there number. Smiley smile

You can look under vendors and then officiants to find someone in your area.

Http://www.decidio.com/ They Come to You with offers - no calling around needed.

Great site for searching for vendors. For example click on officiant on the left side, put in your city and state... You will get a list... if you see one that you would like to contact you, click on their name/picture, then hit the free price quote... Then it pulls up the survey on what to answer about your day, put in your budget, size of event, and it has notes for you to type a little something if you like... and leave the "Also request quotes from competing Officiants". box checked... that is how I got 5 others contact me and then just signed the best priced one. 3 contacted me within the first 5 hrs! Got mine for $200.

It also lets you ask for quotes of all other things - hair, make-up, limo, etc...

Plenty of officiants offer vow renewal services.

We were "legally" married last Dec for personal reasons. I don't recognize that as my wedding since my family wasn't present and it wasn't in a church. Our pastor is marrying us in November and when we told him he was fine about it. He actually joked that it was less paperwork for him. You should have no problems finding someone to marry you in your area.

Since you are already legally married, you can get anyone to perfom your renewal ceremony, as there are no legal paperes that need to be signed and filed. You mentioned your families are fairly religious, but I'm sure they would love the fact that a close friend or family member is re-marrying you. Smiley smile

If your families are religious, talk to the pastor of each parent's church. Most likely your marriage is legal, but not sanctioned by God. They would likely do the religous marriage for you.

I like FMS's idea, why not just have a close friend or family memeber do it since all the legal technicalities are already taken care of? That way it will be more special

My Grandpa performed our ceremony and it ment ALOT to not only me, but my DH as well. It made our wedding and marriage that much more special. Not to mention the grin my Grandpa had telling everyone about the ceremony, it was a mile wide and I feel super special that I am the only grandchild that had Grandpa perform the ceremony! He even added a special little quote at the end of the ceremony Smiley smile

We got legally married in March because of some stuff with the Marines but are having our ceremony in Oct. We don't really count the one at the JOP because it was a last minute thing and nobody was there. We're not making any changes to the ceremony at all since to us we're married but not "married, married."

There are plenty of people who do it this way. You should have no problem finding someone to do a religious ceremony for you guys. They may want to change the words a bit though.

I'm sure one of the parents' pastors or priests will be more than happy to marry you since most pastors/priests and very religious people do not consider the court house wedding as being the real wedding because it's not blessed.

I wouldn't recommend having a friend do it just because you're already legally married, I'm going off of what you said about the parents being religious, I don't think they'll be okay with that, it'll be best to have a pastor/priest of one of the families perform the ceremony and bless the union.

@ Patrica, My mom's side of the family is very religious, and they were more than happy with our civil ceremony, and it was the religous grandpa that performed our civil ceremony. I think the couple getting married should have the ceremony they want, performed by whom ever they wish, and I do think it's great that they are taking considersation into what other family members think, but ultimately, it's their ceremony, not their parents.

FMS I understand that, like I said I was going off of her original post, she did a quick wedding because of the parents before moving in together, she and her husband may want to please the parents again. She's quite young and I understand that sometime even when people are married they still want to show respect and please their parents so they feel like they're doing the right thing by them. That is where I was coming from...

Ultimately it is her and her husband's choice and like I said again I was going off of her post. Good luck Whitney in whatever you both agree on.

If you're Catholic, they will do a marriage blessing and they will have you do your vows again.

My brother was married by a judge and then had his marriage blessed by our pastor about a yer later. His wife was married before and the annullment did not come through until 2 weeks after their date which is why they were married by the JP. Not sure how other religions work.

You can definitely find an officiant that will do the ceremony for you!!! My brother and his wife did that very recently. They got married at the courhouse because he was going to be deployed. She wanted to big wedding so while he was away the wedding was planned and when he gets back in about 6 weeks they are having the full on wedding with the white dress and all. We know they got married, but she wants her wedding and should have it.
