I need to make the wedding website myself - where did you do yours?

GrayCatVintage, on January 11, 2015 at 3:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

I have given up on FH helping with anything regarding the wedding. I am over it.

So, I need to get this website up and moving since I need to order STD's soon. All my OOT guests are antsy and are starting to ask questions so I need to get this show on the road.

Where are your sites through? I would prefer to purchase my own domain name with GoDaddy so people can go to FutureHubsandFutureWife.com instead of going to say Wix.com/FutureHubsandFutureWife.com. I just need something I can throw together quick and easy. Any suggestions?

We bought our own domain through godaddy (www.FHnameMYnameWedding.com) and then made a site through appycouple.com. We set up the custom domain to forward to the appy couple site. I love their wedding websites

Those are SUPER cute but they look geared to an iPhone display. I do not have an iPhone/fancy phone and I know none of my elderly relatives do so I don't know how this would work. Did you have any issues with desktop use?

You can use wedding wire and purchase the domain too. I really enjoyed doing ours here, it was really easy, and looks really nice.

I got my website from Riley and Grey. Click here to save or copy and paste the url: https://www.rileygrey.com/i/9d1sxu

You can choose your own domain, have guests RSVP on the site, have a password so that only your guests have access to it, and there are some cool and unique designs that most wedding websites do not offer. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I just used the WW templates. I did do the custom background option so I could match it to my STD. But it was pretty easy to use, fast to set up, connects to the WW guest list, and I could register for our custom domain straight from a link on the page and redirect it back to the WW webpage with zero hassle. Downside is it's not as customized as you can make them at other places but it's done super quick and easy.

Appy couple looks great on smartphones, but it also looks beautiful on the desktop site. I love that it looks different from all of the other wedding websites I've seen, since most brides use WW.

I do know most of the younger guests will be using their phones or tablets to access the site (I am the only one who has shunned the smartphone). I just need something usable but the appy site has "fancier" sites I must say.

I just used WW. I purchased a domain name for $1. It redirects, but it shows the ww address after it has redirected, including my username.

So I created a separate WW account just for the website. Didn't want guests stalking me on here!

It also works great on phones and tablets.

We used WW and I purchased my own domain: www.nasharaandmilton.com - Otherwise the link is really long for guests. I love it and we've gotten tons of compliments

We just did ours through theknot.com. Our website is theknot.com/us/(lastnames) but you can pick your URL. Its not that long and I also like how guests can search for your names on theknot and it will pop up. I don't think a wedding website is worth paying for lol but godaddy isn't that expensive!

You can purchase your own domain on wix as well. It's a one time fee for the domain and then a monthly fee depending on the type of site you choose. I'm paying $10 a month for mine.

I bought my own domain and created it myself using Elegant Themes. Since I already own a few domains, this one just piggy-backed off my main one. I'd show it to you, but I deleted it months ago.

My fiance is in IT, so he actually bought a server domain. It's really just our own website and not affiliated with anything else, which is pretty cool.

I started making one on here and I will see how it goes. The format seems simple enough. However I am taking the advice of Mrs. T and I opened a second account. I do not want people staking my posts. Smiley tongue

NaShara & Milton: I LOVE your site!!

Ours is on here and I think it came out nice. I didn't find it necessary to reinvent the wheel or purchase something that is free.
