i need your help - Woodstock Themed Wedding Decor for the Modern Bride

Lauren H., on July 11, 2018 at 9:24 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 36

Hello loves.

The Idea:

My fiance is a huge Beatles, Zeppelin, The Doors, Hendrix (etc etc etc) fan. And I'm a sucker for a themed party and chance to dress up. We're 1 month into our engagement and SO MANY wedding ideas are coursing through our scattered little minds. Our recent idea is to have a Woodstock themed/inspired wedding. Our date was flexible, but we were doing the math and NEXT YEAR is the 50th anniversary of Theeee Woodstock. So our minds are giddy with the idea of a mid-August event.

The Issue: I imagined having an enchanted forest type of setting. The ring my fiance bought me is totally me.

But I don't love the colors of the 60's-70's. I like white, silver, dusty blue, navy and FERNS. I feel like in order to pull this "Wedstock" event off tastefully, we need to tie in hints of popular groovy colors and bold flowers.

The Mission:
Help me mash up these seemingly polar opposite ideas. No lava lamps or tie-dye table runners are on my vision board. Smiley xd But I do need to figure out decor from that era, ideally what has truly used during that time.

Any ideas??

xoxo Lauren

Actually, from my parents recollections, and those of their friends, and flm footage of the festival, the primary color of woodsock was mud brown , as held on farmland with multiple days of rain. The music was great,, though much focused on antiwar songs. The clothes were absolutely raggedy, lots of people sleeping outside on the ground in the rain! You might want to focus on a decade of great music, much of which is still around, and drop Woodstock. There were many, many outdoor festivals throughout upstate NY , western MA, Newport, Monterey, and rock and folk music everywhere.A generic, setting you can pick and choose for atmosphere, rather than being faithful to specific things as they really were in one real ace and time. Weddings are part fantasy anyway! Should be great from the period music alone.

Love these, and it would be a great idea to incorporate that famous poster somehow.

You could totally go the boho route which will play on all things hippie and earthy. Love your ring!

I think Hendrix was the only one of your faces at Woodstock. But other festivals, sunny yellow days near ble oceans and lakes, with a sea of soft faded blew of denims, well worn , and soft eyelet and light white or pink or soft yellow peasant blouses or eyelet tops, often embroidered, were more common than the harder edge psychedelic colors. And soft earth colors. With images of open skies and limitless mother nature greens were decorating and clothing colors. Native American silver jewelry was featured, So was jewelry from the Indian Subcontinent. Featured, were silver and brass, not gold. And hanging ferns, and vinous plants hanging down from pots were everywhere in hippie mother earth fashion, small concert venues and restaurants. The media focused on the Peter Max poster style, and psychedelic bright colors, but the softer edge mother earth and sun, blue water and denim, and varied greenery was far more common nationwide. So since they are your preferences, go with them. Theme parties can be fun to plan.

Judith, this was EXACTLY what I needed to hear. I loveeeeee the idea of soft faded denims, and eyelet light whites/creams, and Native American silver jewelry. Freaking spot on... I hope to keep you close as I continue to plan. Smiley shame

I live not far from the site of the original Woodstock festival, let me know if you want any tips or information from the area. I can take pictures of the area but it's a huge grassy field basically now and they still do concerts but the stage was built not in the exact same place but it's still an operating music venue. There's a sign where the original festival took place, if you want that incorporated into your wedding somehow let me know, I can try to get pictures and if you want a sign or something with your names let me know lol the colors are like bright pink and blue and yellow there I think

ALSO had this thought... See if there's anywhere near you that rents out the old VW buses or converted them into bars or photobooths. We have a few around here it's so cool

Eveyone's advice is super helpful, so I just had an idea! I am not sure where you are located but where the original Woodstock was in NY is now a concert venue. They also have a Woodstock museum and a plaque by the fields where Woodstock was. That might be a cool place to have engagement pictures, if it is not to far from you!
