Hello loves.

The Idea:

My fiance is a huge Beatles, Zeppelin, The Doors, Hendrix (etc etc etc) fan. And I'm a sucker for a themed party and chance to dress up. We're 1 month into our engagement and SO MANY wedding ideas are coursing through our scattered little minds. Our recent idea is to have a Woodstock themed/inspired wedding. Our date was flexible, but we were doing the math and NEXT YEAR is the 50th anniversary of Theeee Woodstock. So our minds are giddy with the idea of a mid-August event.

The Issue: I imagined having an enchanted forest type of setting. The ring my fiance bought me is totally me.

Willow Engagement ring with twisting branches and little leaf accents.cfb_995810.jpg

But I don't love the colors of the 60's-70's. I like white, silver, dusty blue, navy and FERNS. I feel like in order to pull this "Wedstock" event off tastefully, we need to tie in hints of popular groovy colors and bold flowers.

The Mission:
Help me mash up these seemingly polar opposite ideas. No lava lamps or tie-dye table runners are on my vision board. Smiley xd But I do need to figure out decor from that era, ideally what has truly used during that time.

Any ideas??

xoxo Lauren

NICOLE you are an angel. I would love to see some of the signage from the original festival!! What a great source of inspiration that would be!!

And you are right on the money - there's a photobooth in our state that is actually a converted VW Van - https://photoboothplanet.com/rental-photo-booth/chloe-vw-photobus/ But she's over the price we have allocated for fun reception stuff. Trying to see if anyone has a nice one even to tow it in and have it in the background for guests photos.

Oooooooooooh!!!!!!! We're in CT so just the neighboring state - I think this is brilliant! This just got me so excited... !!

Also, I noticed your date is right around the corner! How are you feeling as it approaches? Anything looming on your to-do list?

Depending where you are in CT, it's a straight shot on 84 to NY and Bethel is a beautiful area. Many residents came for Woodstock and just never left!

That's a link to the archives by the museum on site there... I'm gonna look for some of the pictures I took when I was there

I think one of the things I have taken away from the many themes events i have done in my life, including my wedding, is that you make a bigger punch with a few key, well done items/ideas than everything being super themed. So maybe you choose the VW van photobooth, choose the centerpieces (groovy record sleeves and flowers?) and awesome invites in a nice outdoor Woodstock-worthy setting. You can subtly weave in some well picked songs ( maybe a guitarist for cocktail hour?), wear a vintage dress, have vintage styled bridesmaid dresses, some "flowers your your hair" (please do daisy bouquets!), but I agree you dont need flower power beades curtains and tie dye everywhere.

I think it is also hard because most of us weren't there and only see cheesy stuff like Halloween costumes and party supply stores, def not what you are going for.

Also, a total other interesting idea is you could do research on what a 1969 wedding would have been like and do that!

Here are some fashion links to help you out.

Cuoghi, you are incredible. This whole community is! I'm so touched by everyone's help and advice Smiley heart

I absolutely love your recommendations - and you're so right about the cheesy Halloween type stuff we see in stores. It's hard for a younger generation to envision anything other than that since it's what we're exposed to. Your links are PERFECT, I'm digging in now!!

And I'm so with you Forest Gump... I wonder if it's on Netflix lol

Nicole - wow. I just got chills! What I would give to be planted there back in time, watching the events unfold. Side note - I think I want the bird with the guitar and hand on my invites or save the date!

You might want to try and see if you can rent a VW Beetle from a rental car company for the day and you can hire someone to take photos with a Polaroid. It might cost you less than $100 for the rental and you can get a college student to take the pictures. You can go on s printing site and make custom stickers for the photos to brand them with your wedding date.

Oh I love that! I was thinking of macrame table runners, but we might have linen covers so I don't know if I want to do that. This is a great alternative to get my fix In!!
