I need your opinion on mismatched center pieces.

GrayCatVintage, on June 2, 2014 at 1:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

My first thought was I could order birch bark vases and have all the tables be exactly the same. The vases are galvanized aluminum with bark on the exterior. I was then going to cut some wood slabs as chargers and use small glass bottles to hold the table number. FH asked is that going to be too much wood?

I said, well I didn't think so because birch bark is whitish/gray and the slabs will be brown. So, it got me thinking that maybe I should consider using a bunch of different vases instead for flowers? The vases would be at different heights/sizes instead of 9 inches for the birch ones. What do you think about this?

Can you have too much wood at a wedding?

Seriously though, I can't picture either. Do you have any pics for inspiration.

I like the idea of things being a little different. I'm doing my own centerpieces, and although I'm using the same colors, they'll all look different. I think it'll be fine, as long as they're all similar in size.

1.) The Vases I intended on ordering

    2.) Vases on a slab

    3.) Mix matched vintage vases

Imagine all options on a wooden slab as a charger.

I like the idea of two different centerpieces...I plan on doing the three cylinder vases will with a submerged flower or two and floating candle (yet TBD) on some tables and tall flower filled ones on the other. And that's for a cost saving tool AND to provide some accent lighting (most of the venue is filled with windows, preventing us from using uplighting/accent lighting

Regardless of style, you can have different height centerpieces. I did one with 4 different arrangements, on 3 different table shapes.

If you're thinking some people will comment they don't like it, they will. No matter what you do, someone will find fault. It's the nature of people. Do what makes you happy.

Mine are different but they blend well so I think you are OK to have them a bit different.

I love the milk jugs on the wooden slab, but then we are doing something similar with tall vases and smaller bud vases for our centerpieces. I like the idea of having a different look at different tables, they don't have to all be the same, but then we are doing a large U shaped table since we will only have about 50 people at our wedding Smiley smile

The reason for this idea is because I am a vintage dealer and I already have various vases, ewers, and other vessels that can hold flowers and water. The only draw back is that some will have more flowers than others (given the size of the vessel) so I did not want people to think they were put at a "wimpy table" if one had more flowers than the other lol.

Mismatch is great as long as you have a common flowers among them to tie them all together example like the pink center pieces above they all work because the flowers are matching. Same with the vases the Purple daisy's tie in the look.

Mine will be mis-matched. All will have a similar base idea (like you want to do as well).

I will have gold frames from goodwill (all obviously differents shapes and sized but relatively close) in them will be moss. Each table will have a different shape terrarium jar and some tables will have stagecoach lanterns. There will be a mix of small amber jars around to hold flowers as well as votives.

I want the tables to look "put together from scratch" rather than identical to each other.

I think birch on a wood slab would look fine and the other vases will too.

I like the mismatched look, as long as it is not chaotic, if that makes sense. Maybe have something unifying them all, such as a common flower or filler.

    I like 1) option. Lovely!

As for my wedding we had those center pieces for our romantic dinner on the beach.

I would almost classify them into different levels

    1) rustic elegant

    2)casual county

    3) vintage

All are pretty and would look nice. I think the feel that you want carried throughout would determine which centerpiece . The only reason I say this is our theme , I want rustic elegance and FH wants casual county . So we are trying to combine them together but until planning and talking about what we want did I realize the different levels of rustic/county . But they are all pretty !!!!!
