I think Wedding invites are stupid. Can anyone tell me why I should spend money on them?

Ok hear me out. I LOVE save the dates. I get so excited when I get them in the mail. I love how early they come so I can request time off work way ahead of time and book flights when they're cheaper, and I love the picture of the couple and putting it on my fridge. Ok hear me out. I LOVE save the dates. I get so excited when I get them in the mail. I love how early they come so I can request time off work way ahead of time and book flights when they're cheaper, and I love the picture of the couple and putting it on my fridge. So what I don't understand is if you include the wedding website on the save the date, and you're inviting everyone who gets a save the date to the wedding. Why why why do you need to also send formal invitations? Cant I just put a note on the save the date that says "feel free to RSVP on the website"? Will anyone care? Should I just send invites to the grandparents? What am I missing here?

I HATE online rsvp. I always forget. The rsvp card reminds me I need to do it.

Why not take the elements you like about Save the Dates (photo and wedding website info) and just incorporate them into the formal invitations. That's what I did. You can do whatever you want with invitations...so long as they are sent 6-8 weeks ahead of time and convey all the necessary information.

STD are very vague regarding information only giving the date, city and state. The invitation provides specific details as well as rsvp cards. If it's about cost I just helped my friend with her invitations and they were very simple and with the discount she got them for under $200. It's an added expense but a required expense.

I had lots of OOT guests, so I had quite a few early RSVPs on our website. But we still did a simple, one page, formal invitation closer to the date with a deadline. Worked just fine.
