I want a cheap wedding ring... am I insane?!

Kirsty, on December 23, 2015 at 9:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

Hi there!

There's no other way to put this - I really don't care about jewelry. At all.

Wamp-wamp!!

But... I just don't give a toss about it. The only jewelry I wear is one AWESOME necklace that I get complimented on once a day almost (no joke) that cost $2.50 from Forever 21!

Now, obviously, I am not going to be buying wedding jewelry from Forever 21. But my question to you all is... how did you proceed with shopping for and purchasing your wedding ring, if jewelry just wasn't your thing?

If my partner spent $1000, or $2000 or whatnot on a ring, I would probably strangle him, hee hee. Just kidding. But in all seriousness, I would 100% prefer to put that money to other uses. I just don't really care about jewelry, and I really, really don't care about Keeping-Up-With-The-Jones.

I want my ring to be beautiful to me, but not expensive. So... how cheap is too cheap for a ring? Would you ever buy a ring from, say, Walmart's Bridal range?!

Get the ring you want. Whether it's buy one get one free, or costs $2,000. In the end, you have to be happy with it.

To add a little more to my original post - I'm not looking intentionally for terrible jewelry! I DO want something that is gorgeous, and that I adore to wear every day. But I just don't need it to cost the earth.

So long as the stone/s are set well, and it is genuine silver, and won't tarnish like crazy, or turn my fingers green or whatever, I'm fine!

I say as long as the ring doesn't turn your ring finger green and you're happy with it then it's your wedding band

Honestly it's a symbol. Do what you are comfortable with. It's a breath of fresh air also to have a bride not obsessed with the size or value of her ring. Happy planning

This is really a personal decision. Before we got engaged, FH and I went to a couple of stores to browse engagement rings, and I specifically asked him not to spend more than a certain amount because I felt it was frivolous. So my e-ring is a simple solitaire, not as incredibly expensive as some other rings. So I guess the point I'm trying to make is that you should set a budget you are comfortable with and find a ring that works in that price range. The ring is a symbol of your commitment; the price tag does not matter.

Before my mother's ring was ready to be given to me, we picked one off berricle. I was pleased. It still has meaning to me as it was the one he proposed with. Cz in sterling silver

Go for it, OP! You can get a beautiful ring at just about any price point, especially if you're willing to branch out/away from diamonds.

There's no such thing as "too cheap" ring...but think about this...do you expect your cheap Forever 21 necklace to last you your whole life? Probably not. Most women expect to wear their wedding ring almost daily for the remainder of their lives. I say that as a generalization. So, it's worth it to them to invest the money into a ring that is going to go the distance if they don't plan to "upgrade" later on. I would say at least spend the money on the type of metal (gold, platinum, etc) that's going to last...that's the cheap part anyway...And then go with whatever stone you desire. I wouldn't go with a pearl though...they aren't known to be super durable.

I would say go with at least sterling silver. Otherwise it could turn colors when exposed to water/air....

I got white gold with small diamonds though and 2 wedding bands, it cost me $500. I wanted the real thing because I will be wearing it everyday and wanted it to be durable.

You should look into lab created diamonds; they're really inexpensive and nice

Yep, get a quality setting and look for diamond alternatives. Most are just as, if not more, beautiful than real diamonds.

I say mention this to your partner. My FH was good and didn't spend a ton on mine which I am happy about. He knew I wasn't really a jewelry kind of girl. He went to Jared but went with a cheaper ring.

I got a morganite ring from Etsy for under $400 that I LOVE. Alternative gemstones can be pretty, unique, and still look 'engagey.' Get whatever you want! I wouldn't go super crazy cheap (like $10) just because I wouldn't want it to fall apart and have to be replaced.

Berricle.com - my favorite. I am glad that my wedding rings are "real" but I don't really care about my other rings as long as my fingers don't turn green. Berricle's stuff is made from sterling silver and CZ mostly and it's absolutely gorgeous (and realistic!)

I insisted FH not spend a lot of money on the ring. We were able to use stones I already had and reset them. It was perfect.

I love my ring from TwoBirch! My engagement ring is palladium, but I got a sterling silver wedding ring. Both are set with white sapphires. My wedding ring was under $100 and I adore it!

The one thing about the ring is make sure you get something that can hold up to your day to day activities, this doesn't mean that you need to spend a lot of money! But go with a plain band of good quality metal or a small nicer end stone if not it will break, or bend or disform. I was just like you. He made me a very small diamond ring. It's around.25 carot

Don't feel pressure to spend a lot on a ring but spend enough so it will last. Smiley smile

I work at walmart and sterling silver wedding bands are around 30 dollars at my store. I have one as a back up on layaway (not that I can't afford it. I just don't want it to get lost at home.) if I find something I like better, I'll cancel it. Walmart is a great option.

I agree with the other brides on here. Speak to your hunny about the budget and go from there. You can do whatever you want , it will be your ring, and your wedding. Happy shopping and planning!

Walmart has some really beautiful bridal sets. There is nothing wrong with getting a ring from there. Also have you tried Kohls, they have gold rings for less?? Check out the websites the other ladies mentioned. It really is a personal preference do whatever makes you and your FH happy! Good luck
