I went to a self-catered, friendored, backyard wedding in the rain

FutureMrsWhitman, on September 9, 2016 at 11:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 38

It's been forever since I've been on here. Things have been so hectic but I'm back!

A few months ago I posted about a bridal shower I went to where the couple registered for a honey fund, a down payment on a house, and student loans. Also, like a $200 toaster and all kinds of weird stuff. A few people asked that I update everyone on the wedding since it seemed like it would be pretty tacky. So here it goes:

It rained... a lot. The bride didn't want to have the ceremony under the tent with all the tables since they built a pergola for the ceremony, so the guests stood outside, in the rain, while they exchanged vows. Fortunately it was only sprinkling at that point.

A friend officiated. That was pretty uneventful. Cute

The food was mostly blah. They didn't let anyone eat until they roasted an entire pig, which meant we waited forever to eat.

There was no dj. I think they set up a play list. It kept cutting out. No one danced.

Settling in to read this one; these stories are PSAs, and I really appreciate the ladies who take the time to share how these "it's my day" weddings actually play out.

Wow. it already sounds like a hot mess. I'm not risking getting sick or cold for someone else's wedding. No thank you.

The desserts were all made by friends and family. The brownies were the bomb. I ate 3. The bride had her favorite cake as the top tier only and wouldn't let anyone else eat that flavor because she wanted it. I didn't eat cake.

They had both bridesmaids and both groomsman give speeches. I already hate toasts, so I just about died.

The decorations were beautiful. The bride didn't it all herself, including all of the set up. I was very impressed. Probably the prettiest venue I've ever been to and it was a backyard wedding.

They had mosquito control come the day before but the rain washed it all away. They also didnt plant any citronella or have any tiki torches. I had so many mosquito bites on my legs it looked like I had chicken pox. I went home around 9:30 because I needed to put on anti itch cream... and I was bored.

Overall it was okay. Beautiful venue, beautiful couple, good company. Just wasnt a fan of the food and the rain was really a bummer.

They ended up doing their photos the next day because it didn't stop raining until it was dark out. Thankfully most guests brought umbrellas.

No seats at the ceremony? I remember going to a wedding in a field...in the rain...with no chairs...with heels melting into the wet ground. Fifteen minutes felt like an hour -- it really was an eyerolling experience.
