I went to a self-catered, friendored, backyard wedding in the rain

It's been forever since I've been on here. Things have been so hectic but I'm back! A few months ago I posted about a bridal shower I went to where the couple registered for a honey fund, a down payment on a house, and student loans. Also, like a $200 toaster and all kinds of weird stuff. A few...

A few months ago I posted about a bridal shower I went to where the couple registered for a honey fund, a down payment on a house, and student loans. Also, like a $200 toaster and all kinds of weird stuff. A few people asked that I update everyone on the wedding since it seemed like it would be pretty tacky. So here it goes:

It rained... a lot. The bride didn't want to have the ceremony under the tent with all the tables since they built a pergola for the ceremony, so the guests stood outside, in the rain, while they exchanged vows. Fortunately it was only sprinkling at that point.

A friend officiated. That was pretty uneventful. Cute

The food was mostly blah. They didn't let anyone eat until they roasted an entire pig, which meant we waited forever to eat.

There was no dj. I think they set up a play list. It kept cutting out. No one danced.

@VC they had the roasted pig, fried chicken, baked beans, a few different types of pasta salad, Ramen noodle salad (I was so excited about this because I love Ramen noodle salad but it was so bland!! ??), rolls, and I can't remember what else. They had cheese and crackers and veggie and fruit traits for cocktail hour. Dessert was lemon bars, brownies, baklava, and cake. For alcohol they had a couple kegs of basic beer, a couple legs of local brews, varied wines, and sangria. No pop, though, which I thought was weird. The kids had to drink this sparkling dry white grape juice infused with rose hips. Very strange.

"The kids had to drink this sparkling dry white grape juice infused with rose hips. Very strange." Yeah, that is strange. My grandson wouldn't have touched it. I would have done a soda run.

Fricking hippies with their "don't drink chemicals" ugh.

I would have left. I was outside yesterday for less than 10 minutes and I got 4 mosquito bites- for hours? I would have been a bloody crying mess. I would have started scratching- and then bleeding- and then crying- because I can't do itching.

I can do a lot of things.

But incessant itching makes me fucking CRAZY- I get really upset if I can't make it stop.

    I would have literally died.

But the tables and the tent look really nice.

I feel like a white Knight cannot defend this. They can have an "its my day attitude" if they want but they need to recognize that guests have to face repercussions of poor planning. I love my friend dearly but I left early, sober, itchy, and unsatisfied. I had to bathe in Epsom salts and baking soda just to keep from tearing my legs apart.

@Jarocka I cannot tell a lie. After the first 7 mosquito bites I did start crying. FH took my hand and asked if I wanted to leave but a friend from Germany was visiting and we were going to be her ride to the place she was staying and I didn't want to drag her away. She ended up getting a ride from another friend. Lol

Was it a buffet where you go get your own food? I assume the food was set in stations

It looks decent, a bit too plain for my liking and yeah mosquitos SUUUUCK

    Sounds great. Not.

It's not 'your day' the minute you invite two other people.

@VC dinner was buffet style the pig was completely carved when it was set out. I didn't eat it. I've been to their families pig roasts before and I think it's kind of gross, so I didn't eat it. They set up a little table for appetizers for cocktail hour, but it was so small and set up too close to a guest table, so it was kind of hard to get around. The dessert was in the far corner. They set the desserts up very pretty but again it wasn't that easy getting to.

It looks beautiful but making people wait out in the rain wasn't the nicest thing (I'm guessing there were no children or elderly??)... neither was stealing the one special flavor off the cake! Haha. They must have a decent location with the look of that backyard, though.

Ashley, I'm still wondering if you know what temperature you need to keep the soup?

At least there was booze. If I was there, I would've been getting drunk off my ass.

@Ashley S there were a lot of elderly people and children. The kids pretty much just ran and played in the rain and got drenched and dirty.

The decor and pergola are pretty nice but everything else has got to. Ain't nobody got no time for no freaking mosquitoes and rain!
