Ice Cream Bar?? Suggestions please!

Patti, on May 20, 2014 at 11:23 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 30

Hi, I know this is a bit........unusual, but.......we were thinking of doing a soft-serve ice cream bar-type thing at our reception. I know, it sounds a bit juvenile, haha, but we thought it would be different! Problem is, I can't seem to find ANY vendors in our area who does this type of thing.......has anyone ever done this in the Philly area? If so, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

FH and I are huge ice cream fans, so we definitely want to do an ice cream sundae bar Smiley laugh I cant offer much help as far as philly, but I know some rental companies offer soft serve ice cream machines and you would just have to get the mix, toppings, etc. if you wanted to do regular ice cream that might be easier..just have to get buckets of ice cream and you could probably work something out with your caterer!

Do you have a Cold Stone Creamery nearby? They offer staffed sundae bars as well as self-serve ice cream bars. =)

This sounds amazing...I would not think this juvenile at all. I would be so happy to go to a wedding that did this!

Thanks Ladies.......I was hesitant to even post this question on here, b/c I really thought it seemed a bit "pin the tail on the donkey", lol. But now I feel much better! Smiley smile It is just something we are thinking of doing, b/c it seems that, in addition to the wedding cake, the majority of people have cupcakes, little teeny desserts on trays, the usual wedding fare.

I love this idea too! My FH and I almost did this, but went with a dessert bar instead. I can't help you in your area but we found a place for ice cream at a Bridal Show. milkandhoneychattanooga.com

I'm sure you've done a ton of Google searches already, but did you try gelato?

I don't have any advice, but we had a Kona Ice truck come to our reception to serve up Shaved Ice and it was a HUGE HIT!!! Hope you can find a vendor because I know your guests would love it!

We do ice cream bars for events all the time. Have you talked to your caterer? Before you go book food, talk to your caterer/venue. They may have rules on bringing in outside food

Try party rental places that rent out margarita machines and stuff. I found a ton of them that also rent out soft serve machines. Might not come up in a google search? I love the idea!

There are a couple different ice cream food trucks in our area. They could drive to your location and would have everyting on board Smiley smile

The thing with the truck idea is, it's an indoor reception, so not sure how the "ice cream truck" would work. I don't think it would. Smiley sad

We asked out caterer about doing on in lieu of a dessert table. They said they would look into it, but the problem would be that a dessert table is self serve, whereas an ice-cream bar, due to health reasons, would need staff to serve the guests. Still hoping we get one though!!!!!
