Idea for outdoorwedding brides who dont want coolers for beer

Liz, on March 8, 2013 at 9:34 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 3

I know people have been posting about alternatives for storing beers at outdoor weddings other than coolers. We had several suggestions including metal tubs, old clawfooot tubs and other interesting things. Here's another idea...

Just thought I'd pass it along seems easy enough and you could make it for any sized cooler.

A child's blow up pool works well if you get the oblong one and put it on a table (or 2 tables,, depending on how large of a pool you get)...use a plastic or vinyl table cloth to cover it so it matches your color scheme, fill it with ice and bottle / cans of whatever drinks.

I manage an outdoor venue in TX. Size of the guest list, # of bartenders and the bar set up(s) will play a role in what'll work best to ice down beer, white wine and champagne. If you've hired professional bartenders that are experienced with your venue, ask them what they prefer to have. A well setup bar can save labor, and possibly eliminate the need for extra help.

Depending event size we use 4' galvanized tubs or x-large ice chests for cooling drinks. We ice down drinks a couple of hours prior to the reception, and top off w/ ice as needed. Depending on how warm the weather is, a 200-guest wedding will use 400-800# of ice; we have an ice machine but some ice companies do rent out portable ice trailers.

We also have a 3-gallon dispenser of water behind the bar so that the tender can offer water to guests who need an alcohol break. We use these same acrylic containers for signature drinks which are popular at our location.
