Ideas for brides with allergies

LoveLoveLove, on February 26, 2017 at 8:59 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 27

I have horrible allergies and am nervous about having flowers. I'm researching non-floral ideas like brooch bouquets, limbs/branch centerpieces, etc. I don't want artificial flowers - I think they look cheesy.

We are getting married in October in a country club that's beachfront.

What do brides with allergies do?

Has anyone attended or planned a flowerless wedding? What did you use?

Talk to a florist. They can give you some ideas about allergy safe flowers.

I have never seen, in 1500 or so weddings, a flower free wedding. I've seen a handful with fake flowers, which personally, I hate. The colors are usually off and they don't 'move' like real flowers, if you know what I mean.

I would second talking to a florist. We're seeing a lot branches and crystals with a tiny amount of flowers (i think you actually COULD get away with a good quality artificial one; it's usually just a sprig here and there....

I'm very sensitive to pollens. My florist recommend orchids and hydregnas! She let me rub them on my hands and face and sit by them the entire consult. If you find a great florist that truly cares it can be done! I always thought I would have to have a flower free wedding because of my allergies. Good luck!

Thanks for your tips ladies. I'm still not convinced that I'll have flowers, but it's good to know a fellow allergy sufferer was able to find some that works. I will research orchids and hydrangeas!

I used artificial. Hubs and Step son have bad allergies, Plus the bridal bouquet I found I liked online was like $3-400 just for mine! A friend at work arranged them for me as a gift. She loves do them and does a wonderful job!

I'm doing paper flowers for mostly the same reason. I will have fresh garland but mostly because it's not going to be directly in my face and as long as it doesn't have a strong odor or isn't any sort of pine, it shouldn't bother me.

@Joy B...do you have a pic of your friend's brooch bouquet and bridesmaid fans? If so, would you mind posting them? I think fans area great idea, especially since we're having an oceanfront wedding.

I'm doing wood flowers. I think silk flowers look too fake, but I want florals, so I'm not going to try to trick anyone into thinking they are real. They are obviously wood, but I think will be beautiful.

I'm using silk due to allergies. For good quality silk flowers that are realistic looking it can be quite expensive. I agree with the recommendations of talking to a florist

We used origami flowers for the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres. We only had real flowers for centerpieces because they were included and it was one less thing to plan.

@mrs.d thank you! Yes I'm SUPER happy with them! I spent way more on them than I would if I bought flowers at a craft store but still they weren't as much as real of the same would have been, totally worth it.

@leah can you share the name of the Etsy shop? I'm doing some exploring Smiley smile FH is very allergic to pollen so I'm exploring options for our centerpieces. I was looking at flowers made from book pages for my bouquet.
