Ideas for honoring deceased parents

LeeAnn, on March 31, 2021 at 1:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

I'm getting married in October, and sadly, my fiance's parents have both passed away, and somewhat recently (dad in 2016, mom last June). I'm trying to think of ways we can honor them and acknowledge their absence without making our wedding day all about their deaths. We've incorporated his parents' and my mom's (who is still with us) favorite flowers into our florals as a sweet tribute, and we'll of course have a memorial table. My fiance suggested he place single roses on two chairs in the front row of our ceremony seating - has anyone seen this done? Any other ideas?

I've seen people do a sign on a chair for each parent that says something like "Reserved in memory of (name)" with something of theirs on the chair (a flower they liked, an old hat they wore, etc)

I’ve seen grooms keep a tiny picture on the boutonnière or if they want to keep it more hidden, safety pinning the little picture frame to the inside of their jacket. I plan on putting one on my bouquet for my grandparents, and it’s not something big that would cause a distraction from the wedding 😊

Is there something of theirs that your fiancé could wear or have with him? E.g. wear cuff links or a tie that was his father’s, have something of his mother’s in his pocket.

I'm thinking as a groom's gift of having cufflinks made for him that have "love mom" and "love dad" engraved in their handwriting. Otherwise there isn't a lot of things like cufflinks/ties from his dad that he could wear... their thing was skiing so he's mostly only kept his ski jacket and boots. There are a few things of his mom's he could carry, that's a great idea!

My cousin did this for our grandpa that past a few years ago. It was very beautiful and sweet.

Both of my fiancé’s parents are deceased, so I found a picture of their wedding day and another more recent picture of them for a memory table. I coordinated with the wedding planner for a table to display them. My fiancé has no idea, this will be a surprise Smiley smile
