Ideas on Room Set-up for "cocktail Hour"

BreezyBry, on May 12, 2021 at 1:56 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 4

I am having my wedding ceremony at a church that has this side room/ reception area. Initially, I thought I'd have my reception here, but it is too small for 130 people AND a dance floor. So we have to flip the sanctuary into the reception area and use this room as the "Cocktail"/ wait area (though it will be a dry wedding.) How can I set up this room so that it is good for mingling for 30 minutes to an hour while the other room is flipped? I am definitely having a coffee station and popcorn bar.

But I can't decide how to arrange this area. I don't want to spend a ton on this because it isn't the main area where we will stay. But I do want it to be a little better than this shell. Guest will enter from the left door (where the people are standing).

Do they have cocktail height tables? I would sprinkle them throughout to encourage pockets of conversation. Personally, I would remove the tables & chairs since they'll only be in there for a bit. If they don't have cocktail tables maybe look at alternate seating (extra couches, benches, etc.) to create a flow rather than the formal table setup. To me, cocktail hour is about socializing so I'd focus on how to create gathering spaces that have a different feel than the reception/dinner.

They don't have cocktail height tables, but I may be able to rent a few. I think I am going to light this differently because the lighting is rough. They do have some benches. I'm thinking about maybe having it decorating it in a way that gives it a coffee/study vibe. I can pull somethings from my house and remove most of the chairs/tables. I think lighting will go a long way to give it a better ambience.

Lighting will definitely go a long way!!

I think some interspersed cocktail tables would be perfect, and you can use a few of those long tables on the edges of the room for your coffee station and popcorn bar!
