Identical Bridesmaids Dresses - Do or Ditch?

Are you totally over the tradition of dressing your wedding party identically? Or do you still love the uniform look of matching bridesmaids dresses?? What's your stance on this bridesmaid tradition? Are you doing or ditching identical bridesmaids dresses? Photo by Victoria Carlson Photography Next...

So, I went into planning ADAMANT that my BMs didn't have to match.

We all had a day, took a look at David's Bridal, just to get an idea of what was out there, what fabrics we liked, etc.

I made it clear that I wanted a dark purple, long dress, and if we could all agree on a fabric, that was all I cared about.

All three of my BMs ended up wanting the same dress. They called it the "magic dress". I sat there and laughed my rear end off. To be fair - it was an a-line with a deep v neck, thick straps, and a defined waist. Absolutely designed to flatter every figure. They all looked fabulous (one didn't even need alterations!!!), felt comfortable, and it was purple. Couldn't ask for more.

I loved the idea of having each of my bridesmaids in different styles (aside from color and length)! I told them I didn't care what they chose as long as it was long and in the color "wine", I just wanted them to feel comfortable. While they were all trying on dresses, they all decided on the same dress anyways lol

Omg same here! I was so surprised that all three of my ladies (who are all very different body types) opted for the same dress, but I really do think it looks beautiful on each one of them.

I’m doing identical! Thought about doing different ones, but they all liked the same style dress.

Ditch. When we originally had a wedding party, my girls were going to wear whatever style they wanted as long as it was within the same color scheme.

I had them choose the style that they wanted, but I picked length and color. There was no way they were all going to look good in one dress, one is 5’1 and another is 6’1 so I feel that it takes a lot of stress off when they pick what they are comfortable in

I'm having two BMs and they'll likely wear the same color but in an appropriate style of their choosing

I’m doing. I found a dress that all of my bridesmaids love, and at a very good price! I support ditching the tradition though if you can’t find something that works for everyone. No one should have to spend a lot of money on a hideous or unflattering dress

Our bridesmaids chose their own style dress. They just had to be the same color and long.

So I just had a bridesmaid dress dilemma last night. I want to do the miss match dresses just the same color. I have 7 ladies in total. 6 out of the 7 loved ONE dress. All 7 of them looked great in the dress. One of my MOH didn't like the dress so now we have dilemma since everyone wants that dress except for one. IDK what to do.

I'll probably do it, but I don't really mind too much either way.

This one we are ditching. Since me and my FH are eloping, bridesmaid dresses are not an expense we’re interested in incurring. They can wear whatever they want as long as it’s a dress and it’s not white Smiley tongue
