If chiffon rustic enough?

Sarah, on March 10, 2020 at 12:45 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 6

I'm planning a bridal shower for a friend with a rustic chic theme to it. I am recently married and I have dozens of dusty blue chiffon table runners left over and I was thinking of using those for her shower, but now I'm thinking maybe I should use burlap. Thoughts? I'd prefer to use my table runners if possible because I already have them, but if the burlap would really tie the theme together then I'd definitely get those...they're not too expensive on amazon! For context, we're having mason jars for cups, lanterns with greenery/sunflower wreaths for centerpieces, lots of wood slabs at the dessert table, distressed silver plate chargers, and a wood pallet backdrop decorated with greenery and flowers. Thank you!

I think it’s ok to use those and instead incorporate burlap in other ways such as they make burlap bunting banners and stuff

I think the blue chiffon would be so pretty! You can use burlap in other places. Tie burlap ribbon about 4 inches from the end of the runners, around your mason jars, cake cutting utensils etc

Chiffon is as far as you can get from rustic, except satin would venue with real gold fibers mixed in. Cotton, burlap, that plastic you buy to cover outdoor tables for picnics, or checked cloth, large tablecloth size checks, or small gingham, are typical rustic.

Thanks Judith, I think we're going for a much more elegant take on "rustic" than what you described....checkered table cloths and plastic would definitely not fit with the direction we're going. Honestly "rustic" may not even be the best word to describe our theme lol. It's more country chic than rustic chic. But you're right, burlap and cotton are more country than chiffon for sure!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I think I'm going to use the chiffon table runners and then put burlap in other places as you suggested. It may dilute the theme a bit but it'll save me money and it'll be elegant for sure (I tend to prefer to steer towards the slightly more elegant side than the slightly more casual side personally). Thanks again!

Rustic is rough, unsophisticated, common or real working farms rural. Sound more like Country Manor, homespun, understated quality country things might interest you? Then still not chiffon, though you have it. But inexpensive polished cotton, or brushed cotton or denim or corduroy or a solid color damask usually sold for decorating or upholstery fabrics? The brushed Cottons or no wale corduroy look like tough wearing velvet, plain but elegant. And available cheap, especially is sold in big pieces, or 54 to 72 inch wide by the yard. .
