If your caterer tasting wasn't complimentary?

Nikki, on February 12, 2018 at 7:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37
How much did you pay? If it was free how much did you tip?

Yes I understand everyone will have different price points I'm just looking for experiences. One of ours is complimentary but I have no idea what to expect for tomorrow's because I was stupid and didn't think to ask.

We dont have to do a tasting for ours since we are friends with the person doing our food.. Since we have been to other events he has cooked for.. I have heard people say the paid for the tasting what they were charged per head. For one friend it was 108.

For one tasting we paid $180. It was pretty fancy, the chef opened the kitchen just for us for our work schedules.

Ours is included at no additional cost, but we have a package venue and caterer. At the tasting we will also do all the table settings and other details.

For reference this caterer is roughly $17 pp. So I don't feel like it should be crazy expensive for a tasting....right?

My venue had like a welcome night with a buffet of all the food, appitizers, deserts, deminstations of all different table linen choices,Dj set up, photobooth, some games and ideas specific to the venue.
it went 5-10 and was $30 each person

I'd tip like a meal. If it's $17 PP, tip 25% of the cost for 2, unless you're doing 2 different menus (like we're undecided between 2 menus so we're doing a small tasting of both our choices).

Oops hit enter too soon LOL. If you're doing 2 like we are, I'd make it 30% tip.

Ours is free for us and $50 each for up to 4 more people. Any money we pay for other people to come to the tasting would come off our bill though.

Our tasting was $20 per person. We did not tip. I don’t think it was necessary.

Ours was tonight (and so amazing!) it was complementary for FH and I. We sat at the bar of the restaurant next to another couple who was also taste testing. We only drank water and lemonade. If we wanted to bring additional people it would have been $25/pp. We tipped her $10. I would have tipped more if I drank alcohol. She was helpful and so nice.

Our tasting was complimentary and any additional people was $60/pp. I didn't tip, I didn't realize that was a thing...are you supposed to tip? I thought a tasting was the next step to signing a catering contract.

I feel like we paid 25 for each of us? If you signed a contract with them it was deducted then. It was not good... we did not tip. It was not fancy. And wayyy too overpriced.

Our venue had a tasting night every couple of months, they set up the ballroom similar to how it would be for the ceremony and bring in local florists and such to decorate the tables. It was *really* nice. It was free to us and I think $50/pp for anyone extra. We did not tip, nor was it expected. Because we were doing a destination wedding we brought one of our groomsmen and his gf with us for a fun weekend away.

All of our catering testing was free in the 2 vendors we tried. One was at a hotel ballroom where you walked around from station to station and they handed you sample and you'd go onto the next station and there were about 20 stations. We didn't tip there.

The venue we chose, had a different tasting style, it was in a private room of their restaurant and they served all the samples to your table, and had an open bar with personal waiters. We tipped them $20PP so $40 between me and my fiancé, they were very nice and it was a personal experience.

We received a free meal at the restaurant where our wedding will be as our tasting. We will tip the waiter what we would have tipped him if we had paid the bill in full.
