2 questions:1) How do you set a realistic budget? I've seen posts that say their budget is $8k and other posts for $35k. Of course, it's based on collective income, but how do you set a budget for a wedding that looks amazing without going into debt?
2) What areas are ok to "splurge" and what areas can you really save/spend less? Ex: splurge on the cake and save on nice invitations.
Thank you!

We didn’t talk about a budget before planning. We knew that we wanted only immediate family and decided to first find a venue and date first. Once we locked a date we discussed what was important for us to have and went from there.

Our budget sort of evolved once we locked a venue. We then thought it would be nice to pay for the travel and room accommodations for our siblings, which then evolved to paying for our parents, then any significant others for those who had been with them for more than a few hours. I began by roughly researching how much everything may cost. Once we reached an estimate cost that’s how the budget came to be.
We both discussed if we could pay for our half of the budget and when we both agreed that was it!

    1. I would take into account what you have saved (and what you are willing to spend of that) and what you & your fiance can save per month. That is your budget.

    2. If we did it all over again, we would "save" on flowers (have nice ones but not a ton of them) & alcohol (we had an open bar but all well alcohol is fine for our crowd), & invites (we used Zazzle on sale, it was easy).
