I was SO nervous because all the wedding boards told me to splurge on a photographer or I would regret it. I only had a budget of 1k for photography and there were only a few within my price range. I went on wedding wire and thumbtack, got a lot of quotes, and then researched their past images very intensely to make sure I liked what they were putting out.

I ended up booking someone I found of Thumbtack - Visual Etiquette and he charged me $900 for 7 hours of photography, editing, and full digital access to all my photos. We ended up with 1600 pictures and some of them are just incredible!

Moral of the story is - stay within your budget, do what feels right to you, and research! Anything is possible.

Your pictures look amazing! I did the same thing with my photography research and I actually found a really great guy who did my fiance's step sisters wedding last September and he's only charging me $550! It includes 8-10 hours of photography as well as getting ready shots.

Your pictures are beautiful! I too didn't follow the rule of you must splurge on your photographer or spend 15% of your budget on one. That being said, i wan't happy about either of the pictures from both engagement sessions; however, I absolutely love our wedding pictures. There's something magical, timeless and classic about all of them and she captured every detail, group shot and portrait we wanted.

Your photos are stunning, he did such a great job!!! Your advice is spot on.. do your research! I paid over 3k for my photographer and hate my photos. I'm heartbroken over it. I assumed that cost was an indication of talent and if she was charging pro prices she must be good. I had seen her work and known someone that used her for their wedding and their photos were good so I figured mine would be too. I was wrong! So I think it can go either way. Trusting your gut is definitely the way to go!
