Im 5'3" and my dress has a cathedral train

Izza, on April 15, 2019 at 6:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
.. And my mom said I'm getting drowned in my dress 🤨. Does that make sense? I want a bustle but should consider cuttinf it short for the pictures and ceremony?

I love long trains. I’m sure you can see if alterations can shorten it if you want?

Hi! I'm 5'3" and I think my train is technically a cathedral length (it doesn't feel that long). I love the train and it definitely doesn't swallow me. Has your dress been hemmed? On someone as short as us, it does make a huge difference once the dress is the proper length. I have a bustle for the reception (and American that fold the train into the A-line skirt SUPER naturally). Do you have a picture you can share?

Hemming will help if it’s really the train.
I’m 5’ and some dresses overwhelmed me, but it was usually because of too much lace or appliqué, not the length.

I'm 5'1 and I have a cathedral train. I do not feel like I'm being drowned by the dress. Pictured is the back of my dress (not me in the pic, my sister was so in awe with the dress she forgot to take a pic lol). Maybe after you have your alterations your mom will get a better view of the dress on you. Did they not clip/pin you up so could get that visual of what it would look like?

It's an A-line and I just picked it yesterday so my own dress that will need alterations hasnt come yet. It wasnt hemmed nor was it my length when I had it on but they did clip me on the waist up. My sister didnt get a picture of when it was fluffed but on this pic, im standing on about 6in platform. Maybe Ill post a picture when I get mine.

I think your mom might be reacting to how full the skirt is - are there a lot of layers? Or maybe the clips are affecting how the train looks? It seems really pretty to me and will be good once the alterations are done.

I always heard that your train should be no longer than you are tall. Princess Diana disregarded that completely though! Wait until you get your actual dress and then see what the seamstress says - she'll have some good advice for you I'm sure.

It's honestly personal preference. I'm only 5'1" and my dress had a cathedral train, I ended up having my seamstress remove it. I'm not wearing heels so it was just too much for me personally and I felt really uncomfortable and overwhelmed by it. It's truly up to you, trains look beautiful in pictures.

I had been thinking the same thing but after talking with the seamstress, seeing them hem, and seeing the bustle I couldn’t imagine cutting it off! Wait to make any decisions until the dress comes in, it’s on, and hemmed! (Pictures are of the train and the back with two of five bustle points)
