I'm debating

The bride doesn't throw herself a shower. Is there someone who has offered to host one for you?

Hi Katie! I didn’t have a bridal shower either. I’m okay with the attention, but a strong 70% of me didn’t want to have one. Will you be having a bachelorette party? I say if you want one go for it! It shouldn’t be too bad especially if everyone that’ll be in attendance are people you know.

I mean I already have decorations and stuff. So I probably will have one.

I’d say do the bridal shower but make sure that you have some competent friends or bridal party to plan something wonderful for you. And like I said you only have two significant times in your life to be the center of attention your birth and your death. And as morbid as that sounds, I think getting married and any opportunity to celebrate good decisions in our lives is a perfect opportunity an excuse to be the center of attention. Embrace it!

Have a couple of cocktails. But honestly just embrace the fact that your friends love you enough to want to see you happy on that day. One of the things I did to shift the attention off of me is that I went around and talked to everybody. So that helped people feel welcomed and it gave me a chance to tell them how much I appreciated them.

If you want to have one, go for it! You could think of it as practice for your wedding with regards to the attention. Also remember everyone is there to support you.

I'd vote in favor of having one! I had mine over Memorial Day weekend, and it was SO great just to get to see all my family and friends all in one place. If you don't want to be the center of attention, you could ask your MOH or mom to handle the announcements for food, games, etc., and you could ask whoever is sending the invites to ask that any gifts people bring arrive unwrapped so they can be displayed rather than make a whole thing of opening them.

I too do not enjoy being the center of attention and the idea of sitting open presents in front of people is like my worst nightmare. I love giving gifts but I feel so awkward receiving them. My mom and my FMIL really wanted to throw showers though and so we compromised we are doing one mixed family/friends one and requesting the gifts not be wrapped they will just be displayed on a table with gift tags. The focus will be more on socializing, silly games, and tasty food then the presents. I m hoping this takes some of the pressure off, we are borrowing the idea from my mom's friend's daughter's shower, it worked really for her so fingers crossed.
