I’m freaking out

Ashley, on December 18, 2020 at 4:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
My wedding is in 3 months and the venue (hotel) just informed me that the renovations that were “guaranteed to be done months in advance” will not be done. I now either have to find a new venue and book/pick everything again in 3 months (for one of the busiest months in Florida) or... reschedule my date AGAIN....

I already have sent out STDs and printed invites & gotten stuff engraved with the date... lots of money spent...

I know so many people had to do this also for covid. It just sucks
Sorry I needed to vent Smiley sad

🤦🏻‍♀️ that is really terrible on their part. I personally would keep the date since you probably have all your vendors fully paid for and just find a smaller outdoor venue.

I assume that it's because of Covid. Unfortunately Covid has messed up many renovations etc. Is it NECESSARY for the renovations to be complete in order for you to have the wedding?

That's definitely unfortunate so close to the wedding. I wish they would've told you before so you could figure things out. I hope everything works out for you.

Yeah... they supplied the food and alcohol and had a package that included the cake. So we have to find a venue and all that... yay

Yeah, unfortunately the hotel can’t even open so they called and cancelled it completely today.

    I’m so frustrated

I’m so sorry. So are they giving you the option to get your money back? I’d say try and find another venue because if you postpone you will still have to reprint the invites. At least if you are able to secure a new vendor/caterer/cake you can still keep some of the engraved stuff. Think about it this way it is 3 months but it may be easier to rebook or find 3 vendors than all of them.

I’m so sorry! I can only imagine how frustrating that is. I would go back to the venue and push back on them a little bit. I’d demand that they help find a comparable alternative (in services and price) or pay the difference between what the new costs will be and what they offered since their delay is the basis for the cancellation. I don’t know if either tactic will work, but all they can do is say no — but what if they say yes?? It’s worth a try. Good luck!

Vent away that is horrible! I hope they are at least going to give you your money back. I hope you are able to find a venue soon.

That is so unfortunate. Are they willing to give back your deposits?

I would honestly just look for another venue to host the wedding, it isn't worth the postponement imo

What part of FL do you live in? My venue is all inclusive and in Tampa, I know that they have spring/fall 2021 dates available.

I would shocked if I was you. I had to postpone due to COVID, but kept almost all my vendors. Having to find new vendors last minute may be difficult. But, it is probably worth making some calls and putting out some emails to see if you can move everything. Since everything already is lined up and things are already printed and mailed, it is probably worth seeing if the show can go on. I know a lot of vendors are ready to help and jump in when they hear about situations where another vendor leaves a bride high and dry. If you have a local wedding Facebook group, it may be good to do a post about what vendors you are looking for, date, and budget and see who you can be linked up with.

I would also be calling a lawyer about possible breach of contract claims. I am not a Florida lawyer, but you may have a claim if you have to pay more to other vendors.
