I’m stressed!!

Hailey, on July 25, 2022 at 5:27 PM Posted in Planning 4 22
Hi guys!! My fiancé and I got engaged in july 4 and I couldn’t be happier! Now we’re planning a wedding for next september. I didn’t think planning would be so stressful. I feel in over my head and overwhelmed. At this rate, I don’t want to get married anymore. On top of that, both of my parents have ramped up the crazy… I just want to know that I’m not alone in this? Bless my fiancés heart though. He’s been so supportive in all of this.

Don’t worry, it’s totally normal to feel stressed out at the beginning of planning! I think most brides go through that. Just keep with it. Take things one item at a time, and it will get better Smiley smile

Don’t worry too much about it, this is not the last time you’re going to want to quit planning! L O L. if your budget allows, I would suggest a wedding planner. They can help you keep everything in order and make sure you get the vision you are wanting. They can also help play referee between your wishes and your parents wishes. I know my planner has been a lifesaver! It’s made this a lot less stressful.

I feel like a total snob for not wanting a wedding planner. My dad said a few of my cousins do it but I turned it down because they live hundreds of miles away. I’m also on a tight budget. I’m trying to take it one step at a time and delegate duties to the future hubby

Hey Hailey, we got engaged only a few days after you and started planning also - but only a little bit. If you're getting married Sept 2023 just focus on finding a venue for now since many other things can wait! It helps to focus on it piece by piece. The checklists on WW are helpful and I also got a book from The Knot because I personally like to read through the info. Also, it's you and hubby's day so don't let others pressure you into their wishes!! Unless parents are funding the wedding, draw a line in the sand. Happy planning!

I definitely feel that with the low budget. We picked a venue that was nice and affordable but I can’t help but feel disappointed that we couldn’t go more extravagant

I completely understand! It’s so exciting to get proposed too, but then when you start planning it gets scary/stressful. The way they charge 3x the amount just for anything to do with a wedding is crazy. One thing I can say is if you have anyone willing to help take them up on it!! It helps so much!

Right there with you. I got engaged in June. I’ve quit planning twice and I’ve only actively worked on venues and proposal boxes for the girls I’m asking to be in the wedding. It’s the venues and traveling to the spots to get the vibe, which is why I’m not hiring a planner. Also, most venues come with a day of coordinator so why pay two different fees! Hope that helps.

I totally get it. My sister-in-law planned her wedding with just her and her husband. I'm not organized enough to plan this all on my own, so a planner was helpful for me. Plus we are doing a destination wedding, so having someone with boots on the ground is really helpful too! Good luck with the planning, and congrats!

My mom is paying for photography, videography, and my dress. I’m not sure about my dad since he wants it his way and said he would pay, but then got upset because he thinks i expect him to pay… my fiancé and his mom are literal angels with helping me stay calm

It’s been helpful for me to find vendors that provide more than one service— for example a venue that caters and provides the tables and chairs, linens etc. Or a photographer that also provides a videographer and photo booth or something! This can also be more affordable! Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. You got this! Also a common quote I use with my family is “that’s a great idea— something you can consider for YOUR next wedding!” Lol. Maybe I’m a brat but my mom has toned down the crazy since I’ve adopted that phrase. 😇

First off congrats to you! Sticker shock with wedding planning is a real thing and can get stressful real fast. For me it is important to remember the why behind it all the most important thing is you and your partner and celebrating that love. There are no rules do what works best for you. It is kind of your parents to help you, this is a special moment for them too. The best advice I got was don't put your relationship on the back burner to plan the wedding and do not have too many "hands in the pot, everyone has an option and they will mean well but.... Remember to do sweet thoughtful things for each other and have impromptu date nights when things get a little overwhelming. It will come together, it won't be perfect, but it ll be beautiful! Best of luck to you!

Many wedding planners can get you a significant discount with your vendors that pay for the cost of the planner. Would there be any harm in hopping on an intro call with a few planners and telling them your budget to see what they say? Initial calls are free! You got this regardless! You can do it!

I’ve adopted the phrase “Oh you’re paying for it?!” when someone has an idea that isn’t in our vision. I want cupcakes instead of a cake and someone else suggested a dessert bar (a coworker is doing our desserts) so I asked if she was paying. It worked! It also helps that my boss owns several restaurants and is doing the catering for us. This app has also helped ease my stress since I’ve made this post. I feel like things are slowly beginning to calm down.

I feel bad for all the nice people that recommend me getting a planner. I will admit I’m very stubborn, but it’s also the excitement of planning a wedding to the love of my life, and I want to be very involved in every step. I’ve also given up on proposal boxes because that’s too much work and my fiancé and I need to buy a new ring since mine just broke yesterday

Love this!!! Maybe I can score some funding from my family with this phrase! I’m going to try it and see how it goes… keep ya posted! Oh, and have you remembered to breathe lately? Breathing helps too!

I’m finally breathing after several reminders to. I went away to volunteer for a few weeks and that definitely helped. Good luck with your planning!
