I'm using M&M's as my wedding favor. What size organza bag do I need and how many M&M's do I need?

Mandy, on February 26, 2016 at 11:03 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

I'm using M&M's for my wedding favors. I have invited 200 guests, but I'm thinking I'll only have 150 show up. I want to use organza bags, but I don't know what size to buy. Etsy has a lot of sizes like 3x4, 4x6, etc. Also, how many M&M's should I put in the organza bags? I was thinking about 15 or so. From what I've seen online, I would think that I would need to buy a 5lb bag of M&M's in my wedding colors. Any help you can give me is appreciated. Thank you!

If you don't want to do organza bags if you order the custom M&Ms (in your colors or printed with your names or both!) they have little bags/boxes you can choose from too.

I'm thinking five pounds won't be enough. Go to the store at look at the "serving size" on the bag and then go from there. Also you can get those little organza bags at a craft store, I would recommend that so you can envision the size a little better.

5 lbs is definitely not enough. When I thought about doing this for just 70 people I was thinking a minimum of 10 lbs. But, we love M&Ms, so maybe my portion sizes were on the large size. 15 would be just enough to annoy me. Smiley winking

I did custom M&Ms for my favors. We ordered them in the special "wedding" packages they have so we didn't have to worry about amounts, then put those packages in bags with other candy.

There is no such thing as too many M&Ms. I agree with Kimi.

The smaller bag size will help a smaller number of M&M's to not look like "too few." 5 lbs is too small an amount for 200. I agree that the M&M store site could be a great resource for you ... mymms.com. And even though they are supposed to "melt in your mouth, not in your hand," watch out for colors coming off on the white organza if they get too warm! M&M's make a great treat.

A friend of mind did M&Ms as a party favor and said she needed 20 pounds for 150 people

If you are only putting M&Ms in there I think the 3x4 would be ok. But really, the more the better in terms of M&Ms. 15 doesn't seem like a lot to me and my snacking.

I used M&Ms for favors. A 5 lb bag has 53 servings, so you need at least 15 lbs of M&Ms. I ordered 15 lbs and used a little more than 10 lbs for my 100 guests. We still have a partial bag left over to put in a Mason jar. They are also expensive! I bought them on sale and it was around $320.

I would buy a single serve bag and see how many bags you can fill with that oz. Then do a little multiplication and buy that amount .

Also, consider using cello bags it's more cost effective and holds candies better . Slap a ribbon on it or if you want to be super fancy . Buy some sticker name badges and print a monogram or something on it and put on bag.

I just wanted to say that when I read this it reminded me of one of those word problems in math textbooks.

All I have to say is that, as a guest, if I received an organza bag of loose candy as a favor, I'd probably toss it, because I don't know where it's at, who has handled it, and organza isn't exactly going to protect the candy.

^^^^^ I thought about that as well !

Maybe consider a prepacked candy like Hershey kisses or foil chocolates . Depending on your wedding colors, I would wait until after a holiday and get the candy on sale.

I bought a 5lb bag and a 2lb bag of personalized M&M's and we only have about 60 guests. Probably I'll put 10-12 in each favor. Yeah, I think we overbought but got a good discount and we love M&Ms Smiley smile

I am also using the M&M's site..date on one side a pic of us on the other...but am also on the fence about what to put them in...I have done the make it yourself bags before and it's kind of a pain, I may just bite the gullet and order the ones they have.

You can buy favor bags almost anywhere for candies, so I'd skip ordering them from the M&M website because they are probably super expensive. The wedding section at Walmart has them and I think a 3inX4in bag will work. I will agree with PP that 5lbs of candy is not enough for 200.

I have 10lbs sitting at home that I just got delivered the other day and I'm having 50 guests. It is true - no such thing as too many M&Ms! The organza bags I ordered are 4x5.

At Easter time, Hershey kisses come wrapped in pastel colors. Will probably be on sale right after Easter.
