We did no kids except for family. If your best friend is in your bridal party, then maybe you could extend the rule to be "no kids except family and wedding party." Or just find a way to include your best friend's child in your wedding party. We didn't say "no kids" on our invitation, but addressed them only to the adults. People got the hint.

Kids are an all or none thing. People will get offended that you're playing favorites if you allow some and not others.
