Improper?

Gabrielle, on August 16, 2019 at 3:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
Hey ladies, I need your honest opinions and thoughts:

My fiancé and I are thinking that we might move up our date to sometime within the next few months. I really wanted to go dress shopping with my best friend, to have that fun experience. BUT—she goes to university in Arizona (the other side of the country from me), and she’s visiting me for one week. There is very little chance that she’d be able to come with me if I went dress shopping after I had the funds for it, since she can’t just fly over here on a whim haha.

Since my FH and I were originally planning on getting married in two years, we thought we’d have lots of time to save money for things. Now, however, we don’t have much money saved up, and I wouldn’t be able to pay for a dress if I went shopping with my best friend while she’s here (she leaves next Tuesday).

My question is: would it be improper to still go dress shopping with my best friend at a bridal shop without the means to pay for a dress currently?

I definitely wouldn't tell the salon that if you choose to do this. I would hate to try on a dress I loved, but couldn't purchase. However, it can give you an idea of what you want in the near future.

It's not a crime to go and look and try things on. It's the same as going shopping for clothes and trying them on. Although they shop would love for you to buy a dress from them, most ladies go to many shops before picking the one.

Not at all, just know that many salons the sales people are paid on commission so may try to hard sell you. What I did (because I wasn't planning on buying that day without thinking about it first) was set my appointment then tried things on. Told the sales lady I was still thinking about it and that it was a hard choice. That way the topic of money wasn't even broached beyond what my budget was.

This is perfectly okay. You're just shopping around to see what you like.

I think that is a great idea! You still get the experience and have time to save up for the purchase. As long as you let the dress shop know when you schedule and again when you arrive for the appointment, I think this would be totally acceptable.

I think I’ll probably tell the sales people the same, because it will be true: I’ll still be thinking about it haha

I made a bridal appointment and told them I wouldn’t be buying that day because I wanted to sleep on it before such a big purchase. Their customer service was amazing and they didn’t treat me any differently. I found the dress I wanted, and called back and ordered it a few days later.

I went to David's Bridal with my Mom and Grandmother not intending on buying anything at the time but ended up falling in love with my dress then I qualified for a credit card with them and the first 6 months were intrest free. Maybe the salons you are going to will give you that option, if not just getting a feel for what you want without purchasing is also okay to do.

Oh that’s a good option. I don’t often think about the possibility of paying for things with credit. If I fall in love with a dress, it may be worth it!

I don't see anything wrong with it, I went in by myself to a bridal shop because I had no idea what I wanted and wanted to get an idea before I "really started looking". Well, I ended up buying the second dress I tried on but I had no intention of buying that day and I let the sales person know upfront. My only suggestion is to decide on a budget and don't try on things way out of your range.
