In case anyone was wondering.....amount of sand needed

Lacy, on April 18, 2010 at 2:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

After looking at more jars than I care to admit and calculating the amount of sand need to fill each, I figured I should post the formular for those brides doing sand ceremonies so that you would know how much sand you need. Here is the formula:

Volume of container (in cubic inches) x .06926 = Amount of cups that fill the container

Amount of cups / 1.5 = Lbs of sand that fill container

** Volume of cylinder = 1/2 diameter x height x 3.14 (gives cubic inches)

** Volumbe of square/rectangular jar = width*length*height (gives cubic inches)

If you find a jar or vase that gives the capacity in oz, then the formular for amount of sand is:

Ounces / 8 = cups that fill container

Cups / 1.5 = lbs of sand

** So if you are wanting to do 2 lbs of sand, you will need a jar that holds about 24 oz. If you want to do 3 lbs of sand, you will need a jar that holds about 36 oz.

Hope this helps some of you out!
