Including family who cannot come

Rachel, on March 21, 2021 at 6:45 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 1 10

I need help coming up with ideas to incorporate my fiances family who live overseas and cannot make it to the wedding. We are already live-streaming, but I want to do something a bit more. I thought about printing photos and incorporating them into our portraits, but I would like to do something else that engages them. We are having a dinner the night before, a ceremony and cocktail hour. Any and all ideas are appreciated!

You could mail them wedding favors and/or other wedding-related items (if applicable) ahead of time, with instructions to open the package on the wedding day while watching the live stream! You could also ask one or two of them to give a speech on video chat during the reception, for both those in attendance and those watching on the live stream to hear.

You can give them a shoutout during the livestream. Send them favors/something from the wedding. Include them in planning details like song selection, decoration choices, etc.

We did a virtual toast at the end of the ceremony, but we had it set up so we could see everyone on the livestream. It was great!!

Agree with sending them favors & wedding related items. What are you serving for dinner at your wedding reception? Can you have a place near where they live deliver some food close to what your serving?

Any chance you can visit them within a year of you wedding? Maybe a vow renewal there or a local reception might be fun! Even a simple cake & punch reception.

We’re actually moving there this summer! So as soon as COVID restrictions ease up there, we’re planning a small reception.

All of my dad's family and half of my fiance's family live overseas. We are mostly going to be sharing our wedding with them through a livestream and sending a wedding announcement with some of the professional photos afterwards. Since ours will be a small local event, we will also be sending announcements to some friends and family who we could not invite that live in the US as well.
