Including siblings in the Wedding?

Claire, on January 11, 2021 at 9:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hi All!

Happy engagement ladies!

How would you incorporate numerous siblings in your wedding? My Fiance and I would love to include all of them but together we have 9 siblings of varying ages. We are thinking Groomsmen, Jr. Bridesmaids, Ring Bearer, maybe even readings at our ceremony?

We each have 4 friends in our wedding parties. I am thinking maybe include the 21+ boys as Groomsmen and the youngest 3 as Jr. Bridesmais? I included all of their ages below.

Boy - 22

Boy - 22

Boy - 19

Boy - 18

Boy - 16

Girl - 12

Girl - 10

Girl - 8

Boy - 6 --> Ring Bearer

Thank you!

Is it that imperative to include them? Could they just be guests or part of the recessional?

We don't have to include them but we (and our families) would love to have them all participate, especially the younger ones.

If you and fiance want them to participate that is fine. It is not for your families to decide or suggest because they are not the ones getting married.

Not everyone feels comfortable speaking in front of strangers. Often, the officiant does readings for that reason.
Some job ideas: guestbook attendant, ushers, escort of the bride, serve punch and cake at the reception, bridesmaids/groomsmen, flower/ring children.

Honestly it is completely up to you guys if you want them in the wedding. Don't let your family pressure you guys having into having them in the wedding. If you really want, I would have the 8 and 10 year old as flower girls. I think 10 is a bit too young for a junior bridesmaid. One of our flower girls was 8 and she loved it. I would have the 12 year old be a junior bridesmaid. As for the boys, I would have the 16, 18, and 19 be ushers or if one is your brother I would have him walk your mom down the aisle if you plan on having your dad walk with you. I would also have the 22 year olds be either a bride's man or groomsman depending on who they are related to.

I have two siblings and my husband has three. Both of my siblings were in our wedding. My brother was my bride's man and my sister was my maid of honor. My husband's sister was one of my bridesmaids as well. My husband's younger brother was a groomsman, but his older brother wasn't in the wedding at all. However, his older brother's four children were in the wedding.

Both of my sisters were my bridesmaids. My younger brother was a guest and my fh sister was a guest. He had his dad and cousin be his groomsmen.

You could also just have them walk in the processional without having the job or an actual
    Role

Make sure you're including them bc you genuinely want to and not because you feel pressured. Fh and I opted out of including our siblings and that was the best decision for us
