Including Step-children in Ceremony

Kat, on January 15, 2018 at 8:58 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 1 4

I'm wondering if anyone here is including their future step-children (or any children actually) in their ceremony, and if so how?

Things I've heard of so far:

- the sand-mixing thing

- reading separate vows to the children

His daughter is 11, and his son is 8 if that helps with ideas. They've decided they want to be our junior MOH and junior Best Man Smiley smile

My son is definitely being a part of the wedding! He is six, he's going to be the ring bearer, he's walking with me and my dad down the aisle, and he will stand next to my FH during the ceremony. My FH is also writing vows to my little one, which he'll read after we exchange our vows.

That's super sweet! Will he be standing up with you guys the whole time, or will he be sitting down for most of it until the special vows? Also, do you guys plan to write your own vows to each other as well? I got thinking that it seem odd if we did the traditional minister-read vows, and then self-written vows to the kids.

My stop-mom asked myself and my sisters to be bridesmaids. I was 25 at the time and my sisters are 15 and 17. What we didn't know is that during the ceremony the officiant asked us all to step forward. My step-mom read a vow to each of us and presented us with a promise bracelet. It was probably the most emotional part of the wedding for me. I'm not normally a crier but I bawled. I highly recommend vows to your future step-children because it meant a lot to me.

Aww that's such a great memory to have! I also love that it was a surprise for you guys; the fact that it was unexpected probably made the whole thing more memorable and special. I think his daughter would really appreciate something like that, but I think his son will be like "this is boring, let's go home" haha
