Incorporating Vietnamese traditions into American Wedding

L, on July 16, 2015 at 8:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

My FI is Vietnamese, and although we will most likely have a Vietnamese wedding in Vietnam, I want to honor his family and cultural traditions somehow in our American church wedding. I don't think he cares a ton, but I know his mom would definitely appreciate it. We will be having a tea ceremony, but I'd like to do more.

FI said something about traditionally brides having 3 dresses and one is red, and I think that would be a nice thing to do. Can someone explain all this to me? Also, is there anything else I should try to include?

Thanks!

Hi L, it's best to ask his family about the tea ceremony if you plan to do it. Each family does things a little bit differently and it depends on how traditional they are.

Oh yes, the reason we are definitely having the tea ceremony because FI said his mom will absolutely 100% want that, so I'll let his aunt do most of that planning (with his mom and I of course, but his aunt is the one who really speaks English).

Vietnamese brides wear a red ao dai while the groom wears a blue one. Maybe your FH can help you look into renting them. They would definitely be nice to wear during the tea ceremony.
