Indecisive about having an outside wedding or a inside wedding

Gabriell, on May 20, 2021 at 7:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
I am ready to book and lock in a place to have our wedding, every since I was a little girl I always wanted to have a outside wedding but just nervous about the weather since it will be in may.

I'm doing an outside ceremony and cocktail hour then an inside reception. Could you do a combination?

Perhaps you could choose a venue that has both outdoor and indoor options that would work well, rain or shine 😊

I’ve always been hesitant about outdoor weddings. This is my second marriage and for my first one, I wanted ceremony and reception indoors because I didn’t want the additional thoughts about weather. This time around, we were originally scheduled for both ceremony/reception indoors. But, a few weeks ago we changed everything, and are now having a beach ceremony with a rooftop cocktail reception. October in San Diego is pretty nice (as it is year round, actually 😆). So, I don’t foresee rain or ugly weather. But now that’s the only aspect about our wedding change that hangs in the back of my mind.

Our wedding ceremony is outside on the beach, but reception is inside. Weather is always an issue but I’d rather risk it for the biscuit!

    This!!

Our wedding is apr. 16 2022 and we booked a venue that offers both. Or you can rent a tent.

Where do you live? I've never liked outdoor weddings but thats because I live in Iowa- this week alone has been both 40 degrees and 80 degrees 😅

I would choose a venue that has both indoor and outdoor options. Our ceremony was supposed to be on our venue's outdoor patio and our reception in the indoor ballroom, but it was raining so we had to have both indoors. We were very thankful to have booked a venue with indoor and outdoor options!

    Agreed!

We did this. The week before and after our wedding: SUN. The day of our wedding and entire mini-moon: RAIN. In California (not a lot of rain here). Fortunately our reception was inside and we simply changed the ceremony spot to a patio overlooking the venue’s lake which worked even better.

I agree with this. We originally planned for a gorgeous outdoor ceremony in front of a gazebo with lush flowers all over. But the day of my wedding was 102 degrees, so we switched to an indoor ceremony (with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the original ceremony space). If going outdoor, you always want a plan b.

    Where do you live?

I love the look of outdoor weddings.

After having one, I'd never do it again. Our vow renewal is going to be 100% indoors.

But I also live in Florida, in an area where it's 95 degrees and 98% humidity eight months out of the year, and the other four months it's either thunderstorms, high winds, or 30 degrees.

I think outdoor-indoor is a good compromise, with an outdoor ceremony but all other activities indoors. Tents are an option, but keep in mind they can be expensive, especially if you want to dress them up or need environmental control (like portable AC).

Again, it also heavily depends on where you are, when you're getting married, and what the weather generally looks like around that time. No matter what, though, always have a indoor plan B in case of rain.

Just make sure you have a backup plan and a place inside that you can do everything in case of inclement weather. And please keep in mind that inclement weather doesn't just mean rain. If it's above 75 or below 60, it really isn't great for most people to be outside in nice clothes (unless you're having a suuuuper casual wedding, then there's more leeway with coats/shorts/etc)
