Indian and American fusion wedding

Maureen, on June 18, 2022 at 9:41 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 6
I am recently engaged, and my fiancé is Punjabi Indian while I was raised catholic. Neither one of us consider ourselves to be very religious, but his parents are pushing hard for a traditional Indian wedding, while my mom is upset at the idea that we would have a ceremony that is a different religion then the one I was raised in. Has anyone done just cultural (not religious) ceremonies with a fusion reception? I would love any ideas! Thanks!

I knew of a couple very similar to you guys. She was raised Hindu but became Catholic. They ended up having a fusion wedding. They did a small Hindu ceremony, then a Catholic one, and had a fusion reception. From what I heard about it, it was fun and they had a great day Smiley smile

If you're not a practicing Catholic and/ or not considering getting married in a Church building, your Mom's wishes are moot. The Catholic Church won't do it as they have to observe diocese rules. If neither of you are practicing, hold onto the vision you want no matter how parents object.

Or you can have both Christian and Hindu readings in your fusion ceremony, but to have Catholic -specific options, the rituals must be in a Church. Best wishes.

Thank you! I would love to have 2 small ceremonies on the same day followed by a fusion reception - that would be my ideal wedding!

Hello! I would really love to have 2 ceremonies that are not religious, but we are having such difficulty finding information about a non-religious punjabi/Sikh Indian wedding (all the fusion weddings I can find incorporate Hindu customs and culture which are different). And my family would be upset if we do a religious ceremony for the Sikh portion Smiley sad
