Indoor picture locations in Philadelphia

MrsRidley, on November 13, 2017 at 8:04 PM Posted in Pennsylvania Planning 0 14

Does anyone know of any good indoor locations where we can take our pictures for the wedding? We are doing a first look. The wedding starts at 1pm, but because of the date, I'm am afraid of rain or snow. Also, the wedding and reception are going to be held in the same location. The reception is the church's hall, and I? just don't think it's photo worthy for the wedding pictures. I am so concerned because we would probably need to start taking pictures at around 10:30am to get to the ceremony on time, but I have no clue where we can take pictures indoor. Any help or suggestions? Thank you!

The wedding will take place in West Oak Lane area of Philadelpha. That is near Cheltenham mall and Route 309. If we go downtown or something, we are planning to take them around 10:30, so we can be back by 12ish for the ceremony to start at 1pm.

Union league might be good or union transfer might be good

But you would have to check is they allow it.

Philadelphia major gardens is semi indoors. Also which section of the city would you be in? Commuting around can be tough.

ETA: that's up by jenkintown. It's a ways out of center city. You really want to give yourself time to get around.

I don't know if you want to travel this far but what about inside of 30th street station? There's some charm in there! Or the underpass at city hall would keep you out of whatever the weather might be doing. I think I saw something awhile back about the library opening their doors for photographers + couples on a random Saturday. Maybe contact them and see if you can get approval to shoot indoor? Or Temple Univ has a beautiful church on campus (it used to be called the Baptist temple not sure if it still is) right on Broad street ... really nice stained glass windows. Good luck to you!

Munchkin9218, Thank you! I'm going to look into those places. I think I'm pretty good with the travel time. I feel that leaving at 10am would give us enough time to get to center city area, and take pictures. Then leaving that area around 12noon would be more than enough time to get back to the ceremony location. I live in West Oak Lane and I work downtown, so I've definitely thought that through a little bit (or tried at least). I was thinking downtown would have more locations, but if I could find something that's not downtown that would work great too.

KNRTWC, thank you! I'm going to look into those places. I definitely never thought of the underpass at city hall. I think that would work great!

That really doesn't give you much time - what if you get stuck in traffic? I think either rain or snow would make for stunning outdoor pictures. Just check the weather closer to your date so you know if you need umbrellas, a shawl or wrap, etc.

The Union League is a private club open to members, their guests, and people they sponsor.

The art museum- plus if it is nice out, the pictures on the steps are amazing and you get the city in the background

Lilam18, I thought about that too, but I don't think I want my dress/hair ruined by the snow or rain before the ceremony even starts, so I am really hoping to find an indoor location. Unfortunately, since the ceremony and reception are in the same spot, we've opted out of a cocktail hour, so we don't have time to take photos between the two events. Even if we bump the pictures up to start at 9:30, I still prefer them to be indoors.

Thanks Amanda, I'll look into the Curtis Center. I just emailed the Free Library of Philadelphia to see if they allow it too.

Dreamer, I know I stalked the Union League and found information that said that. Unfortunately I am not a member of the union league and I don't think anyone I know is either.

Julie, do you know if The Art Museum allows photography indoors? I suppose I should send them an email.

Have you talked to your photographer? Hopefully the company could show you past weddings with some unique indoor options. You may have to be flexible with your time if there is inclement weather (transportation, hmua, photographer)

I'm actually not sure about the inside. You may have to ask. We'll be getting ours done outside on the steps & I know a permit isn't required for that. I'm sure everything comes with a price!

Union transfer might still let you - or any of the museums. You can get married at either FI or Penn Museum so they may allow for photos. I had a friend who just got married at the Egypt exhibit at the Penn Museum.

Also the art museum inside would be nice and if weather is good the small park behind and the water works are beautiful for pics. FH and I had professional pics taken behind the art museum about a year or two ago

GGTR, my photographer is an indoor photographer that is looking to gain more experience doing outdoor weddings. My mother own a modeling company and he is one of her vendors for her shows, but he did my engagement photos and did a great job. He also did my cousins wedding about a month ago, and he did phenomenal but her wedding location has great spots for pictures.

Thanks Julie, I'll email them tonight!

Munchkin, I'll look into it and find out! I know the water works require a permit, I was looking into just getting a permit for the gazebo near boathouse row. At least it will be covered, I just have to check it out to see how big it is and if my entire bridal party will be able to fit under. But I will still look into the museums. Thanks!
